Hey all, I'm starting orientation tomorrow with Earl Henderson trucking in Caseyville, IL. 3 days orientation followed by 9-12 weeks training running teams. I'm worried about that part, but looking forward to soloing out and getting my own rig. Anyone who's been through their training want to answer a few questions? I'll probably ask tomorrow at orientation as well. While running teams during training, do we run non-stop? IE, 11hrs driving while the other guy sleeps, then sleep while he drives? Are teams still subject to resets? My fear is that my training will consist of me driving while he sleeps and every once in a while he'll show me something. We'll see though. They were still the best of the companies I could get in touch with. I liked the sound of Watkins and Shepard's training better, but they don't have APUs and I didn't want to worry about possible idle restrictions or just burning diesel all night idling that big ol engine.
I'll update this throughout orientation with as much info as I can, and then try to keep checking in throughout my actual training time and then how the company works out once I'm solo.

never driven for henderson but if i was you i wouldnt put up with a bad trainer or one that treats you like a team. theres a reason you are there in his truck and thats too learn!! dont put up with a bad trainer but also dont make it hard on you or him on purpose either. thats a long time in a truck with someone but go into it with a good attitude and youll be fine

Yes teams are subject to the same hours of service as solo's. How your trainer and you run the truck will be up to him and management. I haven't ran teams since the new hours of service with the 14 hr clock came in. We use to run 5 and 5 but not sure how they do it. Either 8 and 8 or all the 11. I'm sure the first week he will be watching you drive while in the passenger seat. He will have to be onduty not driving. But once he gets comfortable with you. I'm sure he will let you drive while he sleeps. Its not easy for the trainer to sleep when somebody is new. Just like it won't be easy for you to sleep while the vehicle is in motion. Once you get to your 70 hours. You will need a restart or have to wait till time starts falling off on your recap. It's not easy driving 11 hours straight. You might get tired at the 3 hour mark. Just because you are not use to it, but hopefully you will get a good trainer and he will help you out. I don't work for the company either. But I have trained and ran team in my day. Good luck and God bless.

Do they hire new Cdl Grads?
-
Guess they do. The 9 to 12 weeks is pretty long. Hope they are paying pretty decent while in training.
-
The way it was explained to me is 14.5 cpm, increasing to 15.5cpm by the end for every mile the truck moves.
-
So they do hire new drivers?
-
Henderson is a small co which will be an advantage for you, a new driver. I worked there in '05/'06 and I believe we had about 350 trucks at that time. Not sure what's going on there now.

Recruiter estimated about 400 trucks now.
