Hello everyone!
I have noticed from talking to drivers with swift, cre, And Werner, that most of the drivers are getting paid in the mid 20's.. Why? Why would you chose a company that pays so low. Let me back up and say a little bit about my self.
Im 25 years old and a veteran from the army. After 6 years, I decided that I was done with the military. Since then, looking for job in early 2012. Managed to get my license and proceeded to look for a job. I started with Schneider. The starting pay was 30 cents a mile. Already more then the three companies I have listed. I'm not getting the lease option shoved down my throat and no surprised deductions from my checks. After 6 moths, I then left for Roehl. I have been at Roehl transport now for 2 months and love it. I'm getting 36 cents a mile and I only have 8 months experience.
What I'm getting at is, I just don't understand why people proceed to go with those low paying companies. I look at these forums all the time and see people with threads stating about how they are about to start orientation with cre and what not. I called cre and the other companies while with Schneider, just by being curious, to see how much they would pay a 7 month experienced driver. I was deeply surprised by the answer. 27 cents. Really? It must be as bad as everyone says it is. So to roelh it was. Way better pay and don't feel like a number.
so, please. Students and new drivers. If you read this, make sure you check you're possibilities. Check out Roehl or someone that barley have any complaints about. There are better companies out there who are willing to treat and pay you better.
Thanks.
New drivers/students

i work for swift and getting paid 36/mile. it is what it is. everyones situation is differant. some people have no choice but to go to a company sponsor school due to being so broke. you gotta start somewhere. some luck out and some don't. have to get that 1 or 2 years in to get anything worth while after that. so i don't judge what others do but try to make my own life better. if i can help others by explaining my experience so be it. good luck on whatever you decide to do

That's exactly why I posted this? To share my experience... I never said anything about worring about everyone else. I'm fine where I'm at and I was sharing my experience to help fellow drivers.

I am going with prime and after training I will start out in the reefer division at 34 cents a mile and if I go the light weight division its an extra 5 cent bonus. I have money but they pay for all upfront costs....So prime is great starting pay from what I see and if your broke its ok considering they pay for the bus ticket and hotel stay.
DeadPhish Thanks this. -

Good! I'm glad to see you both did not start with a failure company. Share you're experience so maybe, just maybe, we can help students and new drivers from ruining their career.
God bless. -
i started with swift as they were the only company that would accept my military experience started at $.40 cpm and i didnt go to a formal school my state let me transfer my military cdl to a state cdl
-
Thats great, but the problem is, most states now don't allow that.

there getting better more and more are jumping on board the ones i know of are ct,ri,fl some have different rules on it then others but they all waive the road test. CT waived all fees and road test as well as fees for my endorsements. They are one of the better states i know RI still makes you pay for the test and license but waives the road test. Looks like indiana, PA, WA, and WI jumped on board too. Edit i just found a map on fmcsa website looks like there is only 17 states that dont have it with 10 of those working on getting it set up. http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/reg-licensing/cdl/Military-Skills-Test-Waiver-Map.pdfLast edited: Jan 19, 2013
