Glider's are basically new truck with either rebuilt engine and tranny (installed at the factory without rears) or same thing but with new rears (engine and tranny installed at the dealer). The new trucks are heavier than older trucks and older engines are easier, more reliable and fuel efficient than new trucks thanks to EPA and CARB. In shorty, if you're not running in California, gliders are the way to go but but if you are, new truck it is. I have minimal issues with my powertrain but cab is somewhat shot but could be salvage/restored so a glider would work for me. All of this is my opinion, what may work for me may not work for the other guy.
