Might want to see what food-grade tankers are in your area maybe? I know my CDL instructor put in a good word for me at a local joint where I'm at. Probably the only reason I'm still being considered. Their insurance may not be as picky since it's not typically hazmat.
Does Roehl require the contract even if coming on already licensed? It doesn't seem too terrible to me as you'd want a minimum of 6 months anywhere you go regardless.
Where is "out west"?

Trucking is not a long hard days work, it's a no-brainer easy gig, roofing is a long hard days work. Trucking is sitting on your butt for 10 to 12 hours a day doing nothing but holding the steering wheel, really not work. Plus it pays pennies compared to what you could make in the medical industry. It's your life, your choice. But I have to say trucking would be the last job I would ever look for as a career. You have skills I would use them. Jmho

Appreciate your input but my mind is made up. I'll always have the option to get back into medicine down the road since I have my degree.
I'll here a definite yes/no tomorrow on my first choice flatbed company. -
What company did you choose?
-
Britton Transport. Smaller outfit out of Grand Forks, ND. Flatbed dispatched out of Sioux Falls, SD. I think around 100 trucks counting owner ops. Flat/van/reefer. We'll see.
HalpinUout Thanks this. -
I've been in the Van, reefer, and container game... I got started in 08 and one regret is not starting out in either Flat or tank...
Anyone can slam doors or reefers or vans... With any trucking experience you can always do that...
Hauling containers is a little more involved but I'm hoping soon to jump on the flat game...
I've missed out on a couple good opportunitys not knowing how to do tank work...
The last thing anyone with a few years experience wants to do is have to re-live the nightmare of going out on the road with a trainer...Peelsession Thanks this. -
If you don't mind disclosing, just wondering what's on your mvr that's holding you back?

DUI that's less than 5 years old (just over 4 years ago now).
I was also hit by someone blowing a stop sign a year ago. Lady offered to pay for the damages at "the body shop I use for all my work" if I didn't call the cops. I felt uncomfortable about it as I've never been in an accident before and decided to file police report. Cop shows up, lady changes her story, cop says "I'll just let the insurance companies figure it out". No citations but listed as "accident" on my mvr.

That makes sense. I'm just trying to avoid a company where the trainer has but 6 months more experience than me.
I know a local tanker company that uses hotels while training. One in truck, the other in the hotel every night. I'm sure those companies are very few. -
Ahhh, I thought most companies only went back 3 years? I wouldn't worry, you should be able to find a job. Good luck to ya, hope you find it soon.Peelsession Thanks this.
