If you want to be home every day or even weekends its kinda important that the company you choose is close to where you live. You think sitting in traffic is bad after a regular job workday, try it after driving 10-11 hours at work. Beverage companies, fuel haulers, dump trucks, LTL, and food service are some that can get you home every day.
- Beverage- Usually starts at 4AM or so and is a decent amount of labor, soda is heavy. Likely delivering to gas stations and smaller stores. Majors now use mostly electric "handtrucks" so its a bit easier on the joints. Pay is decent and some 4 days on 4 days off shift. Long days.
- Fuel haulers- Some will hire rookies. I think its a lot for a rookie to worry about before he gets comfortable just driving. You cant be spilling fuel. Gas is a 24-7-365 operation. Pay is good and with experience can be very good. Some labor involved. Those hoses aint light.
- Dump trucks- Dont know much but in a recession those jobs will evaporate. Daytime 7-5 kinda job, mostly.
- LTL- (less than truckload) Dont know much but they run hard and can make bank. Mostly overnight driving. You see a lot of doubles (two trailers)
- Food service- Running ramps with a hand truck. Parking and backing can be tough cause car drivers are ########. These guys also make bank but they truly work their ##### off.
Even the megas have some home everyday jobs around big cities.
- Math Teacher- Have the whole fricken summer off and holidays, weekends, and ohhhh take 12 days off for the holidays and again in the spring

@Chinatown I see your replies a lot here. Please keep it coming. I am in great physical shape no wrinkles and dyed hair makes me look 35. I need to avoid the dumb scams and low-ball sweatshops. So thanks again and if you can think of other suggestions please let me know.

Maybe look over an application and think, "This applicant has an excellent work track record, maybe we should give him an interview."DillonJ Thanks this. -

DeBoer has a local intermodal terminal in Dallas and a OTR terminal in Cedar Hill. That's intermodal on the rail car.
