Get used to the fact that you won’t make much or anything the first year.
Autonomous trucks only kill off SOME truck jobs (anything with retail sales). There are plenty of jobs no robot could ever do.
So get out on the road. I started 21-years ago from Dallas. Ran flatbed for a great old company out of Birmingham, AL. Home every 2-3/weeks. Brand new wife.
After that first year I worked occasionally. Christmas. Slow periods.
Got divorced a few years back and oilfield was hot. I have two degrees. So what? Got into tuck and never got out.
“Best” job was in tankers, for me.
In Fort Worth is A&R Logistics. Now advertising for a local man at $22/hr.
Pneumatic tanker otherwise and pay is good. Learning curve is steep and hard. Off IH820 at Blue Mound Road (west of 35w).
Have a plan. Go interview with who you REALLY want to work for. Don’t worry about first year or two. Go broke but have a perfect record.
After that they can’t wait to hire you. The truck driver shortage is for above average IQ drivers. The stupid ones are expensive to hire and keep.
A few brains and good character, are the thing.
