    whoa there China, 35 over isn't a fender bender, 15 also isn't.

You don't deal with insurance companies that insure commercial vehicles. The guy is really unhirable, he needs to address the school and what I would consider fraud for not telling him the truth with his record.

35+ hahaha! Like 90 in a 55? 35+ isn’t even just a ticket. It’s not the school’s responsibility to tell him that 35 over is going to be an impediment in finding a job being a professional driver. It’s their job to get him a cdl. They did their job.

Disagree, the school has an ethical responsibility to ensure the student is hireable. They take the money, and if the student isn't qualified to work, they must inform the student of the fact before the class starts.

The only saving grace for the OP is being a yard dog and that's it.

I don’t think they do. Unless they say something about job placement. It’s a trade school. They teach you the trade. People go to trade schools all the time with no actual intention of working in that field. Should the trade schools refuse to accept these students?

He won’t even find work driving a spotter truck. The insurance companies won’t touch him with a 10’ pole. All he can do is wait 3 years and try again.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Well, quit sticking up for the crybabies,,touche'. Look, everybody else said basically the same thing, yet you had to call me out. Maybe we should "bayonet the wounded", probably a little discipline is what is missing today. And,,,I truly don't think they "get it". They want an easy way out from their past, and makes us, the ones that did by the book look like fools. Sorry, REO, you ground my gears on this one.

Leaving the felony aside, I'd think that the 35+ conviction will probably keep you from driving ANYTHING commercially.

I don't want to be pedantic, but here it's 3 mistakes. The law of averages and all, if I were a hiring manager I'd wonder if this guy could even make it 1 year without getting into trouble. If I were him, I'd look for a job hauling trash or driving a shorty dumptruck. If he can hold a job like THAT for 3 years without his lead foot getting him into trouble, maybe THEN a better company would consider him. Right now, I doubt even Western Express would.

I don't know what kind of school provided the training where the OP got his CDL. Depending on the state and the laws in that state the school may have had a legal obligation to review the student's MVR etc before admitting him, or the school may have no legal obligation. A school run by decent human beings would have told the OP to come back in a few years. But the OP had full knowledge of the felony and the 15 & 35 tickets and didn't say what kind of questions he asked. Maybe he did everything right and told the school about everything and they told him it would be no problem. Or, maybe the school told him and the OP said "I don't care."

I run into people every day that expect they should be able to be irresponsible as they want BUT every other person and business must be like SEAL Team 6 and go 200% beyond their duty to save them from the consequences the consumer/student/potential customer brought on themself. If you want to be treated like an adult take responsibility for your life and don't just expect everyone to find you and force the knowledge you need into your head if you won't even try to help yourself. CDL schools, like every school, are in the business of selling customers on the benefits of that school. If you never bother to ask if going into X industry during an X recession, you get what you paid for, a license in X and not much else.

You cannot care more about the outcome than the student or the customer cares about the outcome. Life isn't tossing bean bags. Make decisions like your life is important and the outcome matters to you. There will be plenty of other trade schools that will tell anyone completing their training in a particular trade will turn their life around. No school or business is your parent and they want your money.

Try the trash companies such as Waste Management, Republic, and what others are in your area.
Those companies pay well and have good benefits. I know one guy that went with Waste Management and his first 12 months made $65K.
