Hi I have a bunch of questions so anything can help. I've had my class a for about 5-6 years I've only worked delivery route sales men driving for Pepsi coca cola and a dairy company. The max money I've made is about 45k a year but I'm working very hard. More labor then work. I've recently seen Schneider has an add that state lease a truck from them make runs to Williamsburg Richmond Petersburg and other parts of va. The freight is picked up at the ports here in Norfolk Virginia where I live. The recruiter hasn't called me back to let me know the price of the lease the only other information is that it says the job pays up to 140k and your home every night. Does anyone have any insight on this if its true or not, is this something I should stay away

Probably make the same amount of money you were making.

They mean that you will gross $140k to the truck. You then must subtract the lease payment, fuel, insurance, plates, taxes, etc. I can assure you that you will not be taking home anywhere near that amount. Like 77smartin said, it'll work out to the same or less than what you now make.

I checked Indeed for the Norfolk area...seems to be a lot of options around there.

Do not trust recruiters 100%. They do not work for you. They are there to get new drivers to companies, period. They do not care about you or what you may be going through. They are after you to fill a quota and once that is done they move on to the next driver. Use this site to get your job hunting in line. Research as much as you can because the more you put into research the more you'll get out of it. I know I would want to know that I did all I could do in getting a job. In this industry you have a lot of window time and you start to think about everything. I would want to know I just did not settle and I researched to get the job that fits me. I would want to know I got the best job for me. Remember, better companies have no need to advertise. Look for the jobs where the drivers retire and you'll be going in the right direction. Question everything that is told to you. What I mean by that is check out what is being said. DO NOT go round and round with the person telling you. Be on the sly. The world will open to you and only you if you keep it to yourself. Then if it's successful you'll be expected to tell it here.

Did the recruiter mention the 4-8 hour waits at the ports? The Norfolk, and Portsmouth terminal/ports have gone down hill over the past 12 years. And by the way.......you will be mingling with the lowest form of commercial driver out there. The container drivers here in Hampton Roads are some of the worst in the industry. Route 58 & 460 are a mess almost every day because of some container driver. Every single day there is a container driver causing a wreck some wheres here locally. Most of them are on there last legs as far as being hireable. I know a couple Schneider IC's here. They are not making anything special.
Keep your truck locked while you are in line waiting to get into the port if you get out to BS with other drivers. Trust me on this.
Better yet....................keep your present job.
