Okey guys this is my first post...

I just finished trucking school and just got my CDL class A. The reason I got my CDL was our transportation guy said hey you wanna make more money and better life for yourself I can put you in a truck. Now we deliver to southern Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Northern Washington. The guys who want all the hours and are good drivers get the routes that are the farthest and are called overnighters. I just recently had my first baby thus do not like being farway from home. The boss understands that and is going to make it so if I do have an overnighter it would be southern Oregon or like Seattle just one overnighter during the week and I would have Saturday and Sundays off always. We get paid by the hour.

Now I know for me to get a trucking job like this one is pretty lucky but because I have been with the company for so long they are giving me a chance

Well after my secound day on the job I'm starting to have secound thoughts about this change in career.... Im scared to death of winter driving and the other day we ran into a lot of rain and I saw a trailer go sideways a little. I understand that being a Greenhorn can kill you and there is so much to learn I feel lost.....

When I first started driving rigs it scared me to death!!! Really intimidating.

Put some miles on and you'll get used to it.

I feel more comfortable in a large truck than a small vehicle.

OK Glock, calm down a little now. It sounds like you have a sweet deal going there, so don't overthink things and borrow trouble.

Some things to consider here. You have come into this at the time of year when the weather is getting better - not worse. By the time winter rolls around again, you will have enough miles/hours behind the wheel to feel a whole lot more sure of yourself, and sure of your truck.

Yeah, you are gonna see trucks on their side. Most of the time it is due to stupidity. Either the trucker was driving over his head, or he was cut off by some fourwheeler doing something stupid. This is the type of thing you just have to watch and be ready for.

You do winter driving in your personal vehicle. You can do it in your big truck too. Yes, you will be nervous. That's OK. In fact, that is very good. Being a little nervous until you learn how to handle your truck on ice and snow will probably make you a better driver in the long run. All you have to do is remember to not drive over your head.

Bad weather? Bad roads? SLOW DOWN. Keep your speed to where you are comfortable with it, remember you don't make any sudden changes in speed or direction of travel and you will be OK.

Oh, one more thing - we were all Greenhorns at one time. We survived it, so will you!:)

the above poster is right. You will get used to it. Over time, the length and size will get normal. BUT.... I dont sa this to scare you, as you get at comfort NEVER get to comfortable and NEVER lose respect for that truck. an 80,000 lb anything isnt friendly when it needs to stop, turn corners, climb hills, and back up. ALWAYS respect it. When drivers lose respect for these trucks, thats when peope get hurt.

I think it's only natural to be scared in the beginning. Good Luck to you whatever you decide.

    Right.

    I missed mentioning this.

Don't drive over your ability to control the truck.
