    Glockman,

Everyone has given you some great information. Take heart to all of it. The only thing I can tell you is what was told to me when I first started driving. I grew up with a buddy whose dad owned trucks doing bottom dump work. I used to ride with my friend all of the time. I asked his dad to teach me how to drive. I thought I had real understanding about what it took to drive since I was riding shotgun with his son for such a long time. I was mistaken. He did a real good job of it as I am still driving today and enjoying just about every minute of it. His two teachings that I remember most are; Your gauges talk to you every time and If you don't drive the truck, the truck will drive you. It took some time but looking back, everything he said made perfect sence.

Good luck in your career and I hope you find a company that treats you properly and gives you the pay, benefits and retirement that you and your family deserve.

    Drive safe

No kidding - that's why my trainer is making me practice. It's definitely not something you want to do without thinking about it first.

Not missed one yet - which is more than I can say about my typical downshift... <sigh>

074344 - true. REALLY true about the gauges. Heck, in only two weeks, I've got to the point where I can guesstimate (within about 5000 pounds) the weight in the trailer, based on the weight on my 5th wheel and what gear I can start up in. 'Course, put me in another truck, and I'll have to start all over again. My eyes hit the gauges at least every 5 minutes - more if I'm climbing a steep.

I've discovered that I really hate it when the little red light on the fuel gauge comes on. :)

Agrippa - maybe you should approach them now and ask for more assignments in the long trucks. Explain your reasoning.
