Due to the new HOS regs that are taking effect next month with the reset provision I would like to see how others plan on dealing with the new changes and discuss it. I personally have decided to cut down on the 14s and start running fewer hours making longer trips to cut down load and unloads which chew up a lot of my clock. Doing this and running off the recap seems to be a decent way to cut the rest out of there how it'll work and if it'll be a viable option is yet to be seen. Switching back to flatbed so most places don't load and unload on Saturday and Sunday anyway so there's always the option of taking 24 hours off to pick up that next days hours. Although the recap still confuses me but its worth a try anything to avoid that new reset provision which I think is going to cause a major headache. Also has anybody thought of writing down the time their resets need to be taken and taping them to the dash since they can only be used once every 168 hours (7 days)?

Thanks drivers be safe and have a good rest of the weekend!!!

What new HOS regs? The only one I was told about was the half hour lunch break that will be mandatory, but was also told that is in litigation and prolly won't be put into use. Guess I'm a bit lost. Dang it, now gonna have to go do some research. ROFL

Do a search on here. Been an issue for over a year.

You can only have one 34 hour restart for each 168 hour period.

You must have two off duty periods in the 34 hour restart that cross 12 to 5 am.

WTH does this accomplish? So am I to guess that say your truck was in the shop and you were down for 3 days, drove 1 day and then off again for 3 days, you could only have one 34 hour restart? That doesn't even make sense (of course neither does the 70 hour rule either).

Don't see the restart thing being a Big Deal for me.
The Mandatory break is gonna suck. I drive 8-10h without stopping quite often.

That is the way it will be.

If you get home on Saturday morning at 7, your restart is not over until 5 am Monday. If you get home the same week on Friday night, you cannot start the 34 until Saturday morning at 7.

It will be a return to the recap feature we all used prior to the restart.

You're right, only 1 of those would count as a reset. But you can choose which one. You can choose to not show the 1st one as a reset, use the 2nd one as a reset and then have a fresh 70. And you're also right in that none of it makes any sense.

I'm also reading that it's at least 168 hours, so you wouldn't have to take a reset to get hours back, but could if it worked out that way.

It is a period of 168 hours from the beginning of the last reset.

Small correction, 0100-0500, not 0000-0500. Also, my understanding that this time is at your home terminal time zone, so your actual time may not be that at your 34 hour rest location if you are in a different time zone than your home terminal. See Section 395.3

So to get the shortest reset it seems you would want to start the reset 34 hours two days BEFORE 0500 (home time). I could see this really sucking if you go onto your reset anytime between 0100-0500 thus having to add TWO more full time slots between 0100-0500, you would have to add another whole day to get that second period of 0100-0500 in.
