Alright, I stopped at a Flying J to get drinks and use the bathroom and put myself off-duty, I come back and my dang 8 hour clock has been ticking. Anyone know why? My trip was only 7 hours and 29 minutes long and now I gotta take a 30 minute break.

It is 8 hours from the end of your last 30 min off duty/ sleeper birth period. So your 8 hour clock ticks until you hit 30 minutes then it starts over.

The 8 hour clock is always running. And, to my surprise, I found out that if you take your 30 minute break near the beginning of your shift, you'll have to do it again before the end of your shift. Apparently it's a constant 8 hour clock and it can make you take multiple breaks in a shift if you don't plan right. That I wasn't aware of.

The rule is "if more than 8 consecutive hours have passed since the last off-duty (or sleeper-berth) period of at least half an hour, a driver must take an off-duty break of at least 30 minutes before driving."

The "8-hr clock" is running whenever your logged as 3-Driving/4-On-Duty, but should reset as soon as you log >30-min as 1-Off-Duty or 2-Sleeper. Yup, if you log a break too early in duty cycle, you'll get the forced "opportunity" to take an bonus break while the 14-hr clock ticks on. Joy, joy!

Yep. Had to then. I was only planning on taking a quick ten minute stop. Wasn't planning on taking a 30 minute break as my drive was under 8 hours.

If you trip was under 8 hours why did you have take the mandatory break ? The trip was 7 hours 29 minutes and you said you had planned a 10 minute break . Less than 8 hours - no break required .

Because the 8 hr clock IS ALWAYS RUNNING from the point that you LAST CAME OFF DUTY (Or SB). I had to do the same thing yesterday, and might have to later today on my way from E. Chicago to Pittsburgh- depending on when I get to leave US Steel.

This 30 minute BS is way more of a headache than the new restart rules...####, I hate this crap!

I put in a couple resumes while I was home...if the good Lord is willing, you folks can have this BS, because I'm getting out...if I can.

Actually getting the jobs I applied for is akin to winning the lottery...but at least I'm trying.

Captainx3 it is not guys like me who caused this.

You people who allow yourselves to work for babysitter companies are to blame. Heres why...
When you allow big brother to limit you in mass numbers it is only a matter of time before he takes more and more freedom from you.
Guys like me are not the problem, it's the masses of spineless drivers who refuse to stand up for OUR freedom and what is right.

Masses you need to look in the mirror and say no to bs. untill you do they will continue to take from us all.
