12mph sounds REALLY slow, even on those grades. I'm familiar with that route: I used to drop to 7th or 8th (maybe 6th if I screwed up and missed a gear). But dropping into low? Is that a new route for you? That will make a big difference.
So I have to ask - how is the power on that engine? It sounds like it was sick that day. How do you find the power otherwise?
I'm impressed with your results so far.

Might as well just shut down international.
Cheap skates love them..everyone else hates them with a passion.Ssgtkevin and Oldironfan Thank this. -
International is a far better built truck than my Western Star and Freightliner's. Don't confuse the truck with the Maxxforce engine fiasco.
That's the only problem International has.....trying to get their reputation back because everyone associates them with Maxxforce.2013Maxx Thanks this. -
Haven't drove a international since trucking school and don't want to.
Wouldn't work for a company that used them,no reason to run them except their cheaper, although, not by much.
I prefer my T680..won't drive anything else.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
We all have our preferences. I don't ever want to have another Star, Pete or KW. But that's just me.
Even though I love my Internationals it's hard to stomach a Cummins too. Wish I could get an International with a DD Detroit in it.
Should have kept the old Cat powered Internationals.Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
I deliver quite a few loads to Kenworth in Ohio, one of our main customers.
I see how many good people are involved in making their trucks.
Always treated professionally by Kenworth and all their suppliers.
Good people.
My company buys mainly 680's with a few cascadias.
I've had good luck with the T680 with paccar motors.
Current truck has 550 k on it,and I don't pay for anything as a company driver.
I just drive the truck. -
For sure, not bashing you Steel Dragon. I just had some bad experiences and some good ones.
And a lot of of the bad was probably due to bad dealers and techs.
I just had the best luck with my Internationals. But they were Cat powered.
Just like how I have friends that have 500 Paccars that run with 600/2050 ISX's and others that have them that can barley make it up a hill and hate them.
Seems like any time you buy something now, you gotta roll the dice and pray.Ssgtkevin and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
I hear cats getting back into the OEM programs building engines.
-
Our trucks get serviced at the dealer when possible although I've had a power steering unit and alternator fixed on the road in the last month.
Glad I'm not paying the bill. -
Really? In a way I'm scared because you already know they won't be as good as the old ones with this emissions junk on them.
Steel Dragon Thanks this.
