Does anyone have anything positive to say about US Xpress?

    I do.

We had a guy that came into our class a couple of months ago. He was a former student, criminal background and US Xpress hired him. Long and the short of it is this, he stayed with them for 3 years...and then came back top our school for some retraining on manual transmissions.

He got his start there and I guess that you would consider him as "turnover." He is happily in is new local job.

Will be going to Irving TX. for orentation next week. Any one here in the USX lease program? Was told I will be getting a new Pete. One year lease purchase. What kind of tranny do the new trucks have? And what kind of miles can I expect. Also would like to know, what happens after the lease is up? Do you refinance with your own lender or just continue with a new lease? All input will be appreciated. Thx.

if you want to buy a truck, get your own financing. Read usp on leases on this site. They aren't for your benifit. Just for you to make the companie's payments and save them money,

I have said it befor, and I will say it again, NEVER, and i mean NEVER, do a lease purchase thru the company you drive for. They have no interest in you, but will sure hunt you down if you dont make the payment.

Lease from Volvo, Kenworth, or whoever you want. At least then the truck is speced like you want, and isnt governed to what the company wants.

I worked for them five years ago and can say then, the miles were good.
3,000 to 3500 was average for 48 state drivers. That was then, today due to the depression I'm sure the miles have changed a bit. Recruiter told me expect 2200 to 2800 miles and you will be fine.

Until the economy starts to pick up, from what I understand, this is common for most companies. Most carriers are looking for freight to pick up and get back to normal by mid summer. I hope so! As a rule of thumb, USX is a dry van carrier. Most dry van freight is loaded and unloaded during the day. Reefer on the other hand is mostly after hours. Most grocery warehouses don't start unloading until after 0000 hr. finish early to midmorning.

As far as USX goes, they did have some late night early morning loads when I was last there, but mostly day time freight. It does depend on their customers. Drop and hook loads could have a window, pick up when you get there and del on time or drop when you get there. I think the biggest difference between dry van and refrigerated is, drop and hook.

I can't stand baby sitting loads. That said, reefer freight can be a worry and live load and unloads can keep you sittting. So when you do finally start rolling, it could be any hour 24 - 7. That's why I will stick with dry van freight. If you run your log book right, you will always be in bed by 10 pm. and ready to roll in the morning. ( Not always, Most of the time..)

USX was a good company then, hopefully things haven't changed too much. Have been okayed for orentation next Monday. Had the paper work held up this week due to previous employer questions from saftey dept. So for those who heard that paperwork isn't cleared until you get to orentation, is just not true as of now anyway.

Will be going to Tunnel hill or Irving Tx. for orentation. Will know tommorrow.
They have good equipment and I have decided on their one year lease plan. After one year I can walk away. Why I got interested in the lease, is because the truck is a brand new 2010 387 pete.

Most companies today are giving new company drivers old warn out trucks. The worst thing that can happen to a new driver is being stuck in the shop just starting out. When I get my truck, I want to knock down the miles right away, not nurse some piece of ##### truck with weak batteries that they won't even let you idle in to stay warm. IMO. Hope this helps your cold feet...:biggrin_25524::biggrin_25512::biggrin_25517::biggrin_25513:

Just my rant I guess...sorry...if too long....

The new lease trucks are indeed 2010 Pete 387's. The 2009's I believe were International Prostars. I was told in orientation that they come up with something new every year. Also, last I heard USX is not getting any more Volvos. A select number of 2010 and 2009's went to to senior drivers.

Oh yea, they will stay with autoshift until they arent made anymore, or something better comes up.

They replaced the Volvo with the Intertrashtional. And it wasnt that they quit ordering them, Volvo cant keep up with production demands.

It's because Volvo/Mack has become an unreliable piece of junk. After I had trouble with my Mack I started paying attention and noticed a lot of breakdowns on the road for people driving Volvo's and when I heard someone talk about breakdown I would ask what kind of truck.
