I just called Sage in Indianapolis.
I have my permit, and just need practice driving.
I wanted to take there driving only classes. 4 hours one on one with instructor. I was informed by them that he thought a law has passed requiring me to take the whole training program, and he would get back to me on monday. So I called the manager at my job (i work as a mechanic and going to star driving there) and asked if this was true. He said he does not know of it but will look into it. He has already talked to the insurance company and they said as along as I have my CDL I am good to drive for them..
So if Sage is just trying to get me to do there whole program, does anyone know somewhere else I can go to and just get some seat time?
    Thanks

    Malarky, pure malarky.

All the school does is get you able to pass the CDL written and driving tests.

Since you already have the permit, you've completed what the school does in the first week.

New law, my left testicle... Sales pitch!

Well good, I hope he calls back Monday and says he was wrong and I can get started. My job wants me on the road with a trainer by the first of April.

He is trying to sell you the whole course.
Most insurance companies require your having taken a PDTI course of at least 160 hours: 80 in the classroom and 80 behind the wheel.
If your company can hire you with just the CDL, you don't need any of the classroom or behind the wheel..just the license.
Just be aware, you will need 6 months of verifiable experience as a driver to move on to most other companies, since you don't have the PDTI course.
But then that isn't a problem.

This is a common lie told by CDL mills. The FMCSA has proposed requirements for training but they haven't issued a final rule. Even after the rule is issued it will be 3 years before it goes into effect.

The insurance company is going to make me do 6 weeks of training, which is a lot for our company. And I had always planed on doing a min of one year driving before moving on, but I'm pretty sure I'll stay with this company. I have been a mechanic there 4 years now, and I have a good ideal of how the drivers get treated and home time and all that. I'll be happy there.

this is the proposed ruling from 2007.
    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/rulemakings/proposed/E7-24769-12-26-07.htm

Supposedly, that ruling was finally put into place and to go into effect 2012/2013.

    With that SAID.

I have not been able to find anything that supports that since I started looking for it on and off since October 2011. I do know that it's been a point of discussion at my last job quite a bit though.
