New local driver needing help

Ok I just need straight up answers nothing else. If I own my own business and decide to buy my own day cab and 53 foot trl to haul goods that I bought to bring back to my warehouse what all do I need to be legal. I will only be driving out of Tennessee to Virginia and sometimes kentucky. I know I need insurance but what about it aND highway use and of course registration , will I need a dot number if I'm not for hire?
