Good luck. I personally would look for a reputable company to lease onto. Any truck brand that runs everyday and is not too expensive. Also what dealers or shops are near you when repairs are needed. Side note: if you are married, does the better half have a good job? Hows your credit? You may need both.

What kind of trucks did you drive over the years? Why do you want to switch now from company driver to o/o?
I am afraid that if you have not learned anything about being o/o after 20 years of driving, it won't be a good idea to start your own gig now

    MysticHZ and Roberts450 Thank this.

Shouldn't be too complicated since you want to stay local.
    Day cab or sleeper truck?
www.OOIDA.com is a business website for the owner-operator.

I don’t care how local you stay, always get atleast a small sleeper...

I made a lot of money napping in my bunk 14 miles from the house

Are you going to be running dry van, reefer, flatbed, stepdeck, oversize, intermodal, roll off, tanker, hazmat in mountains or on flatland? There's an insane amount of variables in what you intend to haul and in what terrain.

Define the intended work to be performed and the general region and people will probably quickly respond with real world experience as to what works for them.

As it is, I recommend you get an acert powered super 10 with 18spd.

Try typing "what is a super 10 dumptruck" into a Google search.

Oh never heard that term. We don't use the lift axles here.

I've never ran one but I see them all the time.
I just wanted to point out for the potential O/O that there isn't a single answer for his extremely broad question. Without knowing the intended use of the truck we can't give our input in a useful manner.
