The 2 smartest guys on that list are the company drivers.
they're the only 2 that didn't lose any money on that trip.
everybody else is praying nothing breaks are there in the whole for the week.

Really? Who? EZX1100 is nailing virtually every post to a T.
If He runs his business like I do.........NOBODY else is getting Billed Revenue but the Carrier...Which means No Broker, No outside sales staff.....No Planners, No Forwarder etc etc
Your a fool to allow anyone else even a small percentage of your Billed Revenue -
Reading all these post and I wanted to comment on a couple things. To answer Cabwreckers questions is pretty simple.(SECURITY) is why people stay company. Its all provided for you and all you have to do is show up and Dispatch when you are supposed to.You know that They have your back in any situation.EXCEPT ACCIDENTS!!!! Enough said bout that. 2nd thing I'm reading about these post is Most of the Comments you Professionals are giving are people are 1)Trying to be funny when they ask a Question.2)You answer their question with a Question,3) you are a Good driver but have NO BUSINESS SENSE and last but not least give them something they Understand when you answer the Question. When people want to know about the most obvious question( PROFIT) tell them in plain English the basics about it.You can't talk to everybody the same way about trucking. Some just don't know and we should be willing to take them from A-Z so that the can make informed decisions instead of Smarting off to them.

Making more than 60% of the gross?
Seriously, your costs would be about 70% when you factor in the labor costs of running the business, like accounting and regulatory requirements. This is before your salary.
Most of these carrier make what in profit?
less than 12% at best?
One reasons why I don't have an authority is because this is too costly for me to do. I would rather give the average 15% to the carrier to do the work for me, it is worth it. -
In response to Ridgeline,I think he make a good point about the Cost to run a Business. What I will add to this is some people are more business minded than other people are.I think we have a lot of good driver out there but most people aren't Qualified/Disciplined enough to be successful in the O/O segment of the business. If u start off with a decent truck, some money behind you,a decent understanding of how too run your business you should be Ok with your Own Authority

I cannot help with the funny-men wanna-b's out there.
I just gotta say answer the question of PROFIT is not as simple as it seams. People enter into this business for reasons other than profit and are often not honest with themselves or others what profit there is.
Others do not even know what is profit but keep trucking as long as they can eat.
Others in the industry like to hide the profit. And for some drivers, these people are the most credible despite being dishonest.
In your analogy, get some A-Z is just not possible. You can spell the whole alphabet out for some and they will not believe you. They have never gotten past C but think they are at Y and they have talked to dozen's of drivers stuck at D by route of B on the way to Z and never head of A. -
again, how you manage the money is your call, no one else's
you get the full $1500 and if you want to pay yourself $150, thats entirely up to you
nobody else -

But most aren't savvy enough to be O/O's so it's best they stay company rather than bankrupt themselves, owe back-taxes to Uncle Sam, and make their family homeless.
Ego should never be the driving force behind a decision; Wisdom should.Redman30 Thanks this. -
When I say A-Z I just mean to go through everything about trucking with people.Everybody to know that before you turn a Profit you have to know your Cost. Now comes the teaching part.Start off slow by asking about the Freight they are gonna haul and the year/kind of truck they are looking at.That should get them started on the money they will need. Most need to be walked through the midde and they learn the Rest on their on.Most of these people want to know what they have to have to be successful but they don't get straight Answers
