You will discover part of the problem with answers you get is. You are Angel from Miami, not Andy from Michigan.

Who do you consider to be big brokers? Because every broker I ever heard of is calling me and begging for me to join them. Though I am not your average trucker and they know it. I signed up with three just in case I want to go to another region to do local runs elsewhere with my customer.

It took 6 months for brokers to work with me... every one I called it was sorry your too new... best load board in my opinion is the DAT... I got a dryvan so it was a little easier for me to get loads. Reefer is hard to get some loads like paper loads... you just gotta start calling brokers once you get on the board

The Convoy app can keep you rolling and they don't care if you're new or not. I use it a lot, and you get paid within a couple days with no factoring fees, and no jerk brokers to deal with on the phone. I'm running 2 loads through them this week and being paid $6,500 for them both.

It's hit or miss on the brokers, IT really depends on how bad they need a truck to cover their load. So if you catch them on the right day they will magically waive whatever requirement they have if its a means to an end.

My advice is, if you see a load posting at 8am and it's still there at 1pm, call and try to get setup with them. Provided you will actually do the load of course. Your mileage may vary, but if that load has to go and can't sit another day you might get setup and then you're good to go.

Did you do ANY research before getting your own authority? If you have a plan that you would like to share with us then maybe we can provide you with some assistance. Otherwise, it just appears that you are asking questions on how to make money, MY MONEY, HIS MONEY, someone else's money. Being an Owner Operator takes a lot of work and based on your questions, if I was just going to be Richard Cranium, I'd assume you were being lazy and wanted someone who has already figured out how to generate revenue to share their info with you.

Maybe there is some back story missing or some foot notes that didn't get posted.

I would hope that the Insurance Premium would immediately trigger the "oh, it's time to do some research". I would add 10-20% on Dune-T's post (for the expenses) and see if you can manage that. If you think that's do-able (because that would probably be your worst case scenario) then you are at least understanding what kind of expenses you're about to get into. Trucking isn't cheap and in most cases very unforgiving when you make a mistake. You want to make sure you're not putting yourself in the position of "I'm just buying myself a job".

That being said, I built my trucking company to give myself and others a job. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme but I know I have an income and the drivers have an income every week. I'd be lying if I said I didn't wake up some nights and run the gps on all my trucks to make sure they're going to deliver/load on time. It becomes your life.

Everyone wants to be their own boss. It's great to think that way and I applaud anyone who can take the initiative but don't bankrupt yourself.

I don't run reefer and I'm not in FL but I've had good luck with the DAT board. I also check a few of the free boards but the loads are hit and miss - Trulos & the Trucker Path Truckloads board.
Most of the brokers I originally called were willing to use me from day one and only one broker told me to call them back after I've been working for 6 months.
