Pretty much lol. That and taking the other side off. Sadly that side is connected in a way from a previous repair that it takes a second set of hands to get off without breaking #### i actully want to keep.
That and finding someone who makes aluminium steps. If i cant find a set that doesnt require thousands of dollars in parts im just going to sheignhi a friend who knows how to operate a laser cutter and CAD and make my own.
Still scared the crap put of me when the entire side of my truck more or less exploded. I just saw black, sparks, and chunks fling everywhere then my check engine light come on and thought i had blown my block for a second there.
Luckily the check engine was because my lane departure sensor got ripped off and i was able to turn the thing off with my custom software and clean that code up.
New owner torn on a new truck.

Newest green apu update. At 4300 hours. Went long on the oilchange again because of the funeral. But changed at 909 hours. Used .69 GPH, likely because a lot of those hours were in 100+ weather and the APU had to have the AC on near the whole run time. So 627.21 gallons used. Average cost of $4.23 a gallon. Run cost was $2653.10 vs the $4244.95 i would have paid running the engine at 1.6 an hour. So saved $1591.86 over the main engine. Grand total savings of $13,683.65. Only issue this time was an AC hose seal failed and i had to get a recharge and new seal for $62. Oil change was $145.92 including filters. The engine has offically passed the break even point now.
Also 2 notes, if the outside temp is over 100 and humidity around 80 to 90% let the main engine idle long enough to bring the coolant and oil under 200 degrees or it will overheat on you, the ambient main radator cooling and active cooling fan on the APU radator cant dump the heat fast enough under those conditions.
Also if the temp is over 100, the built in fan is only JUST enough and you really need a 12V external one to circulate the air enough to keep stuff cool. It also takes a while to cool down the cab when its gone full oven mode so best bet is to precool with main engine as you cool the truck then turn on the APU instantly even if you dont plan to be in the truck. Otherwise it works great and even at 112 degrees outside mt cab was still only 68 and quite livable -
So yea remimber those paccar batterys i just got? Trucks been showing only 12.9V while driving so i had them tested. 2 are posting 0,0 deader then a doornail and not responding to chargeing. 1 is posting 10,8 and one is posting 13,2. So ima swap them out for some cat batts before things get nasty out lol. Tech said he has been seeing a rash of these new paccar batterys come through already dead after a few months

Did i ever mention i hate plastic fittings? Every bloody time i find an air leak its always one of those bloody cheap quick connects.
One of these days im going to take my truck down for a week or two and go through it nose to ### and replace every single one of these cheap garbage tier peices of absolute #### with the nice overbuilt steel braid kevlar hydraulic hoses and solid brass fittings. If i dont then i am likely to have them do it while they have the engine pulled to replace it to be honest.
Seriously what brain dead moron puts plastic air fittings right next to the bloody exhaust or uses them in critical places....like the back of the bloody air tanks.JoeyJunk Thanks this. -

Little note on the green APU, if your on home time and a moron and forget to plug in your trucks shore power when its in the single digits. And then go decide to sleep in your truck since mice made a nest in your home bed and you dont feel like sleeping in mouse droppings..... It CAN heat up the cab but it takes about 45 mins to get the coolant upto a temp where it can provide heat. Highly recomend you turn on the truck for like 10 or 15 mins and just idle it up and THEN turn on the APU lol.
First time this has come up and not a big issue as 99% of the time your coolant will still be nice and warm when you use the apu. But deffo something to consider if you plan to use one. -
Water based Liquids are a hell of a heat sink, lotta calories go to warming up 10+ gallons of it.
Im curious how rough that is on your batteries compared to the summertime ac, pretty sure its more intensive than cooling the air.
