Not very. The APU has a 60A altinator on it and the heat seems a lot more even then an espar I.E no charbroiled legs. Since the engine runs constantly and never shuts off the batterys dont seem to lose any charge unless i fire up something big like my microwave.

Next apu uptdate. 5200 hours and still going just as strong as ever. 876 hours on this change .62 GPH 543.12 gallons at an average cost of $4.11 run cost of 2232.23 vs 5760 for the main engine. Total savings of $3258 for a to date total savings of $16,941.

Oh also my new 18 speed is going into my truck. They finished pulling out the old one today. Should be finished by friday. Monday at the absolute latest. So....step 1 of 3 complete to make a newly born cat monster.

Le sigh, almost got away early. They got my transmission fully installed and even told me i was ready to roll....and call me back 15 mins later "uhhh nevermind we got the wrong shift tower, your truck has a forward mounted shift hole and the stick hits the back of it. So you need to wait for the correct parts from denver so your going to be there till tuesday." And whats funny is my shift hole is listed as standard on my vin. So yet another case of my vin being as accurate as reading pig entrails lol.

Oh well i budgeted for 2 weeks so ill be fine. But im still glad the 18 is being installed. To quote the tech as he handed me walnut sized chunks of transmisson guts and glitter...."I have no idea how that transmission was even doing transmission things. The clutch was so worn it was more a cluch shaped peice of scrap then clutch anymore and the oil was so full of glitter and chunks i could have mistaken it for vampire blood, least the oil was bright red though."

Methinks i was one pothole away from a grenaded transmission lol.

So yea. Found a fun way to wake up and need some advice. Anyway my APU cut off and i woke up frezeing my nuts off. Apu was gaving me a fuel warning, so i figured something failed and tried to start my truck. Same thing. Go to check my tanks and filters and i have jello....so i checked my tank heaters.....which at some point got turned off. My guess is when i had my oil chance done someone may have flipped the cutoff switch by mistake since its up near the fuel filters since it loops hot fuel into them. So just bloody wonderful. Im in KC too so its like -40 with windchill.

Sad thing is i treated my fuel with a double dose of howes per directions for this weather or 64 oz for 120 gallons. Truck still gelled up entirely. And this is the third bloody time it gets icy like this and howes falls flat on its face.

Luckily i had an empty 5 gallon diesel can and was able to run my apu off "fresh" fuel from the pump i took inside to warm up. I was able to use it to get my tanks thawed with the heaters....but yea my filters are shot.

So......Any recomendations for a good anti-gel thats not 911? Im leery of 911 since my engine always runs pretty rough after adding it and starts smokeing. And howes is basically snake oil.

All the old timers and old companies I was ever around used FPPF Polar Power. That what I used last winter when it was frigid over Xmas. Power service makes an anti gel that is popular as well. 911 is only for after fuel gels. I have read numerous times here that Howes is garbage.

Why not just buy some #1 a throw it on top of the current diesel in the tank ?

I think all anti gels are snake oil.

We make out own winter diesel in our yard and we do 1000 gallons high performance #1 and 8000 gallons high performance #2 and so far have had no issues.

I find running straight #1 is hard on the new engines and gives me super bad MPG.

Once gelled you will not get it out of the filters. Best to put a mix your additive or 911 in warm fuel with new filters if you trying to get it going outside.
