yes hello My name is Matthew. I will be attending a very good trucking school in September. The question I have, I don't know if this is the correct forum, is I have a class A paraphernalia charge back in 2010..no felonies..did 1 year supervision passed and haven't had anything since thats a criminal charge. I have 2 15-25 mph ovr limit on my MVR back in 2011. I was wondering what if any companies I should try and apply to. I tried Maverick but they said they couldn't work with me on the drug charge even though it's a paraphernalia charge. Im trying to get it expunged off my record also. Any help would be grateful. Thank you.

A drug conviction PLUS 2 speeding tickets (25mph over). This will hurt you in your job search.
GMAN1985 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply back. My speeding was 70 in a 55..both of them..just 15mph over. You would think they take into consideration that it was 2 yrs ago for speeding and 3 yrs ago for the paraphernalia charge...I know they consider it a drug charge but was no drugs. Ever since then no convictions or traffic infractions. It irks me that they just see that paraphernalia charge and automatically say no..instead of taken everything into account. I dont really if its on my record still because when I filled out my app for Caterpillar last year I didnt put it down and they never said anything about it...ywt I figure that trucking companies are diff than Caterpillar searches.

15 over in a CMV is big trouble. Drug related items means that person is a druggie. Otherwise, why would he have the items ? Just being honest.
-
No it just means the person messed up. Now if someone had felony trafficking charges or a list of drug related charges then yea I can see them being druggies. People dont take into account the whole picture...everything like time lapsed since conviction..supervision..etc. Im a Free Mason so I take into account everything. Cant say much about the speeding..price you pay when you have a Z28 Camaro with a Corvette engine in it. What gets me is you read post on here bout people getting jobs with felony charges...a slew of other misdemeanors. Guess just have to find that right company that looks at the big picture and knows that one thing or 3 things in my case doesnt determine that you would be a bad employee. Thanks for responding back.

After you're enrolled in school and attending classes, apply with these companies. They are known as second chance companies. Apply with all of them and your will probably get a couple of job offers. Work with one of the companies for 12 months & you'll be good to go.

Why is it when people come here, they post as if they are looking for answers but then defend things when we tell it from our point of view?
The Z28 thing is funny, I've owned faster cars than that and never got a ticket or even pulled over. -
Because I was looking for answers like what Chinatown gave me. Thank you Chinatown. I appreciate it. I have also owned faster cars also...my corvette which I doubt you have anything faster then that. My 72 grand torino sport with a 351 Cleveland/400m .. also my 12 sec quarter mile 69 chevelle 396. I was looking for help like what Chinatown gave me not to be called a druggie which I am not. Im a brother a mason..respectable. thank you again Chinatown.

I think that the drug charge is a big one, if you get it expunged it will still be on your record, because that happened to my son. Even though it was not officially on his record, many of the companies that pull records will still show the arrest becuase it is already in thier databases. It may be hard to get that one off if you have ever had your record pulled by one of these companies before it was expunged.
All you can do is call and talk to several recruiters and be honest with them. Some companies that I have heard will give you a 2nd chance are: Werner, C.R. England, Swift, Covenant, USA Truck, JB Hunt, Trans Am, KLLM, and CRST.
If you get a year in with one of these companies, keep you nose clean until that Drug Conviction (yes it is a drug conviction in a trucking company view) is at least 5 years old, then you can move to a better company.GMAN1985 Thanks this.
