So I'm running down the interstate and my A/C stops blowing cold. I figure it needs a recharge. So I take it to TA. I get there and the guy tells me he will get me in at 6. It was then 5. So I figured I'll wait. 7:00 comes around and I go in to ask him how much longer. He can't tell me so I get back in my truck. When I do, the air is blowing cold again. But there is a huge puddle on the floor on the passenger side. So I figure maybe it is low on freon and it's the lines freezing and melting. I pulled the filter and it looks good so it's getting air flow. So I clean up the water And roll on. About 3 hours later it stops blowing cold again. I get to Loves and park about an hour ago and see there is another large puddle on the floor again. Now it won't blow cold at all. Anyone have this same issue? And do you think it just needs a charge? I'm under a load and can't afford to sit too long waiting for service. But it's going to be a warm night sleeping tonight and it's very uncomfortable driving. Combine that with the shaking of this rig and I am feeling like I'm losing my sanity. I think this truck is a lemon.

It could actually be overcharged with Freon and that is why it is freezing up, or possibly a restriction in the lines from a clamp or a kink.

I hate this truck! The shifter feels very rough, it rattles like an adult toy, and now the AC doesn't work. Not a great start to my career. And this is a 2013 with onky 200,000 miles! Not to mention the VIN on this nasty wench ends in 666.

Interesting, hope you get your AC fixed, about the shaky shifter, I would to ask you is this the first shaky shifter or do all the shifter shake like hell?, I was on a very old 84 kenworth and the shifter was very shaky specially on first gear I was even afraid it would break my wrist.

Once years ago on a conventional KW, once in a while it would stop blowing cold air. I checked it out and found the inside coil was freezing up. Mechanic at the shop checked the Freon, it was good and the pressure was right.

When it was blowing cold air, the air was very cold. On the left hand side this KW had a vent on the outside that I could open up. For two summers I would open that vent up about every hour for about 5 minutes and it would melt the ice and flow out through the drain tube and my AC would blow very cold air. keeping me very comfortable.

Sounds like the a/c drain tube is clogging up.

That will cause the water on the floor.

    I'd start by clearing that.

    1) the outside drain may very well be clogged. If you an, locate the tube from either the front of the firewall, or just under the cab under the passenger area. Then using a clothing hanger that you make straight, gently get it up in there to clean out the debris.

    2) now as for the cold air not always working, try looking at a few things, like first, the a/c fan belt. is it loose or tight.

    3) check to see that the front of the radiator is clear of debris, like leaves, maybe even a plastic bag that you may have caught.

    4) check ALL the line connections that you can for a build up of dirt, indicating a leak, and the oil coming out, collecting dirt. check all the rubber lines for chaffing against the hood supports or other contact with other objects. If there is serious chaffing, you will get a leak.

    5) The Freon could be low, usually there is a sight glass in the receiver-drier (like a tall screw on filter) that allows you to see flow. If you do not see flow when the as/c is on, you may be low on Freon.

Personally, I'd NOT go to a truck stop for ANY a/c repairs, as many times, they know NOT how to diagnose and repair a/c's.

A dealership would be best, or your company shop. If you own the truck, do as you wish, but I know from personal experience that I was forbidden to have anyone other than a dealer or the company shop make repairs, then try to submit a receipt for reimbursement, as I would have been told, "thanks for spending your money".

It's overcharged and the blower is freezing up.
The same thing happened to the air conditioner in my bedroom at home. Hence the puddle of water.

Sounds like your truck needs protein.

Just for that, I am going to dedicate this morning's steak and egg breakfast, with a side of bacon and country ham. In your honor. No peas and carrots or anything else goats eat. And I will tell the brethren to rejoice at our place at the top of the food chain.
Duos right. But the driver needs help too. We shall help. One day, you wake up feeling great...a bit stronger than usual. It will be because you swallowed a bug in your sleep.
