Well I received my new Prostar this weekend at Joplin and so far after a small 168 mile load im liking it, incredibly quiet, the 13 liter seems to pull with lil effort but they went with a straight ten so that seems to hamper the engine performance a lil(13 would seem to be more logical) the sleeper layout is fine for a single,we here tend to "Spec-Out" trucks nice but the cabinets( same size of "hanging-type" seems to be a bit odd
Compared to the first 17 Prostars we bought we have changed the layout
Gone is the Apu
Gone is the rear live axle(now a tag)
Gone is the Rosewood dash
Gone is the Cummins ISX(in favor of a Maxxforce 13 liter)
Gone is the 13 speed(or full auto) in favor of a 10
Other than that it is real nice, big jump from the Cascadia i was in,,will keep a update going on this

I drive for Celadon so I pass your trucks quite often. Do they still have the grayish colored bumpers on those? I have noticed that it looks like Con-Way chose a base model truck for there drivers....How do you like that International engine? My Pro-Start has 211k on it and I have been stuck in Decatur, AL. since friday while its getting worked on. I was eating about 2 gallons of coolant of day and unfortunetly the shop they sent me too was closed on weekends. The mechanic said the new ISX Cummins engines were having notorious problems with bad EGR valves which is what happened to mine. Oh well. Take good with the bad. I have a suit room and all is paid for by them. Let me know how you like it so far. Talk to you later -
I almost went out with a Finisher that has a new 10-speed Prostar but we just weren't compatable. Never even turned the key. Sitting at the HI in Joplin waiting for new Finisher. He drives a 13-speed Cascadia. Should be heading out in a day or two.

The Maxxforce is amazingly quiet and so far no issue on power(this is a straight 450hp@1400rpm,they ten seems odd tho,as i think a 13 would have matched the power band perfectly,im about to go dedicated on a Lowes account(fairly light constant loads) so im sure the engine wont be a issue
They learned their lesson with the first 17 we bought 2 years ago,to heavy,to many "Bells&whistles" that wernt needed,so they "Fleeted-Up" the models after them.Conway Corp is on a mission to "white out " the fleet and get out of the older engines,if i could change things in this truck it would be no tag axle and a 13 speed other than that it seems fine -

Mine is pretty loaded. No tag, air drop bags, pivoting drivers seat, bunk heater, and NO SUPER SINGLES!!! LOL. I have never been a fan of them. I guess each company has it's own ways of ordering equipment. Another feature I like is that ours have fully matched side skirts and bumpers not the base model gray plastic. But thats just my liking. But you do like it so far? -

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll be heading out with Rob S. from Az. He sounded like a pretty cool veteran driver in our phone conversation. He's got 40 yrs experience so I know I'll be in good hands and should learn alot. Everything about this company so far has been "as advertised". Most drivers I meet have been with Con-way a long time. This company is well worth waiting for. Once I complete training and get my own truck I'll post a CB name. I'm not sure if they're available but I'm leaning towards "Simple Man" or "Southern Bred".

I have been wanting to hear more about the Maxforce 13's with the new Jake brake option instead of the original compression brake that International put on them. Will be interesting to see how much it makes a difference. I would have to agree that this engine would be best matched up to a 13 speed to keep it more in the best operating RPM.
I used to be a trainer/finisher at CFI back in the 90's when Herb Schmidt was a up and coming safety director. (still got my old Finisher Certification Card from 1994 in my wallet and the CFI jacket with the old style logo) Then he made VP of Ops and then took over for Glen Brown as CEO when Conway bought them. My how times have changed. If anyone has a chance, ask Herb Schmidt about how he used to run almost triple digits out here in a Peterbilt before he moved into the offices and became a big shot!I used to get a kick out of giving him and Glen a hard time when they would come out on the road a couple of times a year and make a few runs.
I really gave Herb a hard time when they built the current terminal headquarters in Joplin. We called it the Southwest Missouri Correctional Facility because of all the security to get in the place, compared to the old terminal down the road closer to Range Line Road.Last edited: Apr 12, 2011
