I am ordering a new 2016 48''/102'' flat. talked to a couple drivers... one say's do not get the side boxes between the rear axles, cause they will get water in that location & harder to work on in the future, air bag replacement, brake adjust, e.t.c. I always thought about having the 2 side boxes mounted in the center, cause 1/2 my loads are single coils & that would be convenient. but would that wind drag hurt my m.p.g. to a noticeable difference? headboard, thought about a 2 ft headboard, with the chain & binder holders. any thought on all aluminium wheels, or inside steel outside aluminum? other than weight & price?

these trailers are very expensive. cost more than my house. any advice is appreciated, whatever you can think of. dump valve? not getting a lift axle. that I am sure of that. going to get at walton ky location. prob in jan if weather is good, not going bobtail in snow, thanks folks.

Boxes have gaskets on the doors, between the wheels is fine. Plenty of space to still work n do bags, just can't shuffle under the side as easy.
Put boxes in the middle is fine too. Wherever you get them mounted, just be sure they are level!

I don't like headboards, so I'll leave that to you.

    Why no lift axle?

Hope you're getting minimum of 25 lights per side!

Definitely get a dump valve. I have boxes between the spread and in the center. Either place is fine.

I'm jealous of your new trailer.

don't need lift axle. it may be useful , just not on the list. I'll need a headboard to store a lot of my securement. right now I have a 7'5 by 4 ft box made with 2 by 12's lumber built against my headboard to store my chains, binders, tarp's, edge protectors, e.t.c. lights? well i.m.o. I want the least amount required by law. the way I see it, the less lights the less than can go out. d.o.t. is real good around my area for writing up lights out even if you replace right on the spot.

I don't have it yet. after pulling my current one for over 17 years I don't have to try to justify to my self why I deserve a new one. :biggrin_25523:

The airbags they use on the lift axle are an oddball size and unlikely to be in stock and impossible to get on the weekends. Even in big places like Dallas and Indy.

Unless you have room for spare bags or want to block the air and run with it. Pobably dodging a bullet by not getting a factory lift axle.

You don't need a headboard to store your stuff. You will like it better in the boxes on the trailer. the way our trailers are set up is that one box has straps and stuff and the other box has the chains and binders. Yep there is a chain hanger in the box.

How I would set up your trailer is tool boxes between the axles and dunnage racks in front of the axles. As far as it being hard to get to the brakes and airbags.. BS! The only difference is the direction you come at the problem. Hell you could always drive up on blocks if it mattered that much.... LOL

I doubt my boxes would hold everything. I see a headboard as needed as I with 5 other drivers who run with me doing the same runs, utilize the needed headboard, not to mention I am the only driver out of 8-9 of us total that have more tools, spare parts taking up every inch of my side boxes on my truck. I even have the ability to change my own tires..

with headboard, all aluminum, & 2 boxes with 22.5 tires $52,000 that price could go higher with every extra light or many other options that I may add. I am looking at getting the min. I am a no frills guy. oh and by the way it will be a big bubba. I chose this trailer from the people who I talk to in person, leased with me to same co. I really need another trailer & I think this is 1 of the best out there for what I do.
