+100 on this. Most drivers that I've seen are not proficient at blind side backing.
I'm on a dedicated account, and I make a point of doing a couple of blindside backs each week while at the DC. Nobody cares how long you take...

Hey, all! I finished Orientation in Decatur yesterday. Sent back to the Red Roof Inn as I'm waiting on my Driver's Code and Mentor assignment. Overall, a good experience. Nothing out of the ordinary from other companies I got through Orientation with. It will be what I make it, I believe, and I'm a determined individual. Already ahead on some of the experience matters, answered the questions that I fielded in class successfully.
For another thing, with over 13,000(?) trucks on the road, Safety-wise, Swift had more examples of the type of driver NOT to be!
Newtrucker48, have a good and safe day...inkeper and Newtrucker48 Thank this. -
Newtrucker48, does Swift have only all 8-speeds, like my mentor has said, and got me off his truck in OKC for not "grasp(ing) the concept of shifting"? Or do they also have 10-speeds, like I initially tested in in Orientation? I have an intuition that the DPF/DEF system might have something to do with the difficulty he said I had, but that is just opinion. But I'm Here in OKC, and they are about to give me a road test here.
I told my mentor the first day that I was trying to remember the memorization help that was given in school for 8-speed shifting,. like for 10-speed, 2+5=7th, 1+5=6th, and below that is lower range. Shifting his truck was way different than I remember, but I progress better in the subsequent week. He just seemed to get impatient. -
Most Swift trucks are 9 speed (what you call an 8 speed; they count "granny" as a speed), but they do have 10 speed trucks. My company Volvo has a 10 speed.
In reality, the only difference between the 9 and 10 speed transmissions is the "jump" between low and high range. If you shift a 9 speed the same way you do a 10 speed, you'll find that 5th and 6th are the same gear. (4th gear and high range "granny" are the same.) Hence only 9 speeds.
After a couple of days, it doesn't matter which you have; you'll get used to it.jparm Thanks this. -
Sorry about the delay on getting back on here been really busy and exhausted after a long day. Currently on home time debating if I want to go into this walmart store and get a subway sandwich or chicken wings from their deli.
Purchased a Bluetooth from the pilot in Texas and the rep gave me some tips about an app that let's me catch up on TV shows and movies that I have been missing. Pretty cool. -
jparm Thanks this.
