Be prepared for a lot of hurry up and wait. Bring a flashlight, sleeping bag, and a few weeks of money with you. Hopefully you get a good trainer, there are some shady ones out there.

Ahh,, Werner...Worked for them several years ago....They are kinda like the "LOOSE CANNONS" if you will , of the trucking industry...Seems like a lot of "unpredictable drivers" go there, mainly I think because it's easier to start there...Of course, not too much money , but they do have good trucks..About 85% of new drivers quit there within 6 weeks, and they will tell you that...When I was there, A lot of the trainers would drop a student off well away from his hometown, so you would almost have to take a truck , if you wanted to or not...Lot's of students just want to go home after experiencing the trucking lifestyle. That way you will have to run for a while just to get back to your home towns closest terminal.. If not, you will have to pay for a greyhound bus for something. But, with that being said,, if you can get along with your trainer, you'll be alright,,, just don't expect much money,,, when I was there they paid 26 cpm for OTR, for all miles,,, 23cpm if you are regional, only for loaded miles, mt miles were only 15cpm...That sucks...

Good lord, I was getting 32cpm when I started with Swift back in 1999 . . . there is no way I'd be getting back into the industry now . . . even my hubby, who started with Werner back in 2007 made better than 23 cpm. And they wonder why they can't keep drivers in the seats.

I started my career out of the Allentown PA terminal as well almost 11 years ago.

That terminal is the smallest and worst one that Werner has.

Just like any other terminal, you'll probably be in a hotel for at least a week, get free shuttles in the morning to do paperwork for 2 days, then wait for a trainer.

Didn't like the doctors there for the DOT physical, had a bit of say an arguement but I got through it. Just put up with the bs, get your trainer, then your 6-24 months exp, and choices open up from there.

Starter companies are all the same basically. Just remind yourself that Werner probably won't be a long term thing. It is a way into the industry though.

Make sure you got enough money for food for at least for 2 weeks worth until you start getting paychecks. Bringing some food and entertainment for the hotel stay will help too.

You'll hear good and bad, no matter where you go. Its a start. Good luck with your journey!

Oh, and some advice since I was a trainer for 2 years, try not to bring your whole apartment with you. Keep it minimum, some times the trainers don't have a whole love of space in their truck for your stuff. Remember the trainer lives in his truck, and its probably 90% full of his own stuff already. If you bring too much you might end up sleeping with your bags on the bed with you.

    Enjoy!
