we were 8 in phase I, 5 at the end, they sent 3 people home, the training FM told us today that for the flatbethers phase II is 10 days minimun, working days, not calendar, for van drivers could be 8. everything is fine in our group, at the end you are like family, is the only people you have in your last week

I leave my passport at home, you only need the card with you. Studied the OH CDL book & reviewed some online questions for two days. You will need to study as its not all intuitive. When you get back to OH IO you'll have the privilege of doing it all over again, same tests, to transfer the CDL from WI. Seems even easier after a few months of training and you can take optional tests like hazmat then. Good luck.

What are the reasons for people not finishing Phase I? I can see people dropping out Phase II or later but Phase I at school for 3 weeks seems like a bad place to quit. Are they getting let go before they are even hired? If you prepay $2800 and $400 for a room you would think its just like CDL school and all would finish but then may not get hired etc.

We did not lose anyone in our RDTC class, however, I would think that substance abuse would be a big one. Roehl has a zero alcohol policy while at RDTC..and then there are those that figure they will just beat the pee and hair test I guess for the other drugs.

Then physical ability. Face it, at RDTC this is prep for going OTR. Are you physically going to be able to drive that truck 1000 miles in 2 days? Some of those long hours driving can be gruelling. Im mid 40's and sometimes when I get out of that truck after a long run I'm pretty stiff. Not a matter of being a top athlete, however, if you have certain disorders or physical problems that are going to interfere with your ability to drive safe I'm sure its the best thing to address those issues early on.

Then I guess some people just don't want to do it. RDTC runs early in the morning, I was getting to the truck between 0615-0645 every morning. and then you have saturday classroom too. Seems like theres always one that for whatever reason can't manage. thats true in the workplace too.

In conclusion, maybe the bars a little higher at RDTC when compared to a non company CDL school.

Hard to believe anyone would drink while at training. And are there really people that use any kind of drugs that think they can beat a drug test? They make it clear they do more than a regular simple test.

Well i have met alcoholics that drink every day. I have actually known some of them and they don't even know it. I think that is one thing, however, the RDTC ban goes into the weekend and after hours thats where some people might be more inclined to have a beer or two. Just don't do it.

Here's some advice, if you are from out of state and partake in tobacco, my advice is to bring your own supply of cigarettes or tobacco with you. Wisconsin has a heavy tobacco tax. You can smoke at RDTC in designated areas on break.

LOL wisconsin, cheap beer and expensive tobacco.

I could care less about alcohol, rarely even have a beer. I still notice empty containers in the truckstop parking lots, that never made much sense to me. Nothing to mess with when you're driving....especially commercial.

I am lucky. Quit smoking 4 years ago and rarely drink. No drug use ever. I am going to get my CDL and learn the most I can. I plan to stay with Roehl for 6 months to one year minimum. Only reason to leave is for a much higher pay with a hard to get into company etc. Good or bad I am sticking with Roehl and put my time in. Nothing worth having is easy.

What med do you take? I take Metoprolol 25mg but I cut it in half and take it once a day. Do you know if it shows up on the drug test for Roehl? The reason I am asking is because I have taken it for years and it is such a small dose that my doctor gives me refills for a year at a time and I haven't seen the doc in over a year and don't feel the need to see her. Do I need to mention this med when I take the DOT physical or should I not say anything because the doc doesn't have appts for 3 months and I am starting classes next month. Thanks!

When you take your urine test, you have the opportunity to list any and all meds you're currently taking so those shouldn't be an issue as long as they're prescribed.
