You dont want to walk trust me. The motel is beyound walking distance. You might be able to car pool with someone, but finding someone to carpool with before you get there will be hard and pure luck. When i went to RDTC most people carpooled once we relized who everyone was. just took turns driving. I on the other hand was the reclusive one that didnt car pool with anyone.
They have a shuttle for the exsperianced drivers doing the 8 day orientation. But RDTC students are on there own. i know there is a Taxi serivce in town. But that would get spendy.

I start at RDTC on August 26th! Looking forward to it. It time for a new direction in my life. Any others on here starting then?

Well, I'm waiting for my recruiter to schedule and she's waiting for confirmation of my DOT card from the medical center near me. They say they faxed it, she says she's waiting. If she does get it all set up asap, I'll be heading out for the Aug 26th class.

I know just what you mean. I went through some problems myself with the medical center communicating with Roehl. Sounds like yours is a fairly easy fix though. So hopefully we will see you there. If not, and your the next class I may still run into you at Roehl and most likely the hotel as we all stay at the same one. Hope it works out OK for you, let me know.
Dark Squall Thanks this. -
Think next time I chat with the recruiter, will ask what cold medicine would be fine to use
My two little petri dishes infected me with a head cold I think. And that's not good if it lingers, on account it will raise my heart rate...
Head is stuffing up on one side, which sometimes happens to me during season change. -
I have been with Roehl, also my 1st truck company, as a flatbedder out of the Phoenix terminal for 11 months.
In that time I have averaged 4-6 days home/month (my choice) and 2205 dispatched miles/wk.
It still takes me an avg of 2 hours to secure a full load, cover w/ both lumber tarps, and secure about 60 bungees. And I'm moving with a purpose when I do it. Untarping and rolling up takes me about 40 min. But tarping has earned me over $3000. It's worth it.
I do plan my trips using 50 mph, now, instead of 45, unless I'm going thru CA.
I have been pre-planned before I was empty (the way you want it, to keep you moving) less than half the time. I have waited for the next dispatch (usually bugging my FM with phone and Qualcomm msg inquiries) anywhere from .5 hr to 5 hrs. Once was 10 hrs!
I sat at a shipper once for 6 hours before being loaded, EVEN THOUGH I WAS ON TIME WITH A SET APPOINTMENT. Then they took 2.5 hrs to load me. (Allied Tube in Harvey, IL.)
I'm not trying to discourage anyone, just put out some facts from a different perspective. Roehl is a great company! They do their best to get you home when you want. They pay well. They'll treat you with courtesy. But no company is ever going to be perfect, no matter how much they try.
Oh, if you go through the Fontana yard, bring your own towel for a shower, and your own TP. I ran to the bathroom once in a mad rush, only to find the last dregs of a TP roll left for me to use after #2. I now always carry flushable wet wipes in a baggie in my pocket!
8 day orientation at Gary was a lot of fun for me. The instructors know what the hell they're talking about. According to them, I was the 1st student to ever ace the written securement test. Be sure to try the 3-cone-slalom in reverse! And I had a great OTR trainer, Tony Smith. Another fun 10 days.
Technoroom, I'm glad they're keeping you moving. Slicktrucker, good luck, have fun, learn lots but leave the rosy shades at home.
