Hi all. I'm wanting to make the move to tanker after being back on the road 1.5 years. Made the move to flatbed about 8 months ago so I could prepare for a rewarding career with tanker. I live in Cookeville Tn and have looked at Bulkmatic, A&R, Schnider, Service Trans, Quality, ect.. Having a hard time narrowing it down to the cream of the crop sort of speak from all the ones out there. I let my hazmat go and need to get the test taken for tanker endorsement. Any suggestions would be grateful.

You are going to want the Hazmat back.
-
Yes I've noticed that. What I can't grasp is the .38 to .41 per mile loaded and a lot lower empty wages. I can't justify hazmat for those wages. Hell I'm making .42 all miles now. I have read numerous threads where Tanker starts at 65k a year. If the pay is this low than you would have to run the crap out of miles. Just wanting to break the 1000 per week I seem to be stuck at.

Check out the short haul companies in your area..... Forget the road.
Gas and oil type of work. It's not the holy grail it used to be , but generally pays better than most driving jobs. -
I don't think A&R is hazmat. One driver in Nashville told me he makes $72K per year.
Bulkmatic is also good.
There's more to it than milage pay. You also get load/unload pay, detention, etc. is why the pay adds up over a 12 month period. -
Yea I have thought alot about A&R and Bulkmatic.

Superior Carriers has a good reputation for OTR tanker/hazmat.

Logans,
I've been with Quality Carriers for nine years with no regrets. Plenty of work and willing to pay you to do it too. this of course is my opinion, plus I'm an owner operator. But I talk to company guys all the time and they feel the same. What ever you decide to do, move slowly, dot you "i" and cross the "t".
Good Luck and God Bless!

Hi Rick,
Just wondering if you stay close out of Appleton. May be looking for new work in the next year. Based out of Green Bay how do you think I would do? -
Trimac transportation is a decent company, if you can find a good terminal to work out of.but I guess that is with all large companies but definitely do some research before making decision also if you have chance talk to tanker drivers at truck stops might help you to decide
Chinatown Thanks this.
