    Hi folks,

a customer asked me to replace all his airbags in a Kenworth 660. It looks pretty straightforward. I read some threads, watched some vids. The lines on this rig aren't the 3/8 flex line with the quick disconnect. They're closer to 1" hard line, looks like inverted flare. I uploaded a pic. I'm going to have to jack up the whole thing and let all the air out, aren't I? I'm not going to be able to pinch off the line I'm working on, and let the other bags lift? Also, I'm not seeing much chance of me being able to remove those fittings without tearing em up. Yes I have flare nut wrenches and penetrating oil, I'll use em. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thank you!

Order new sections of the bent pipe section, its a 50/50 if they fall apart when taking it off or not when they look like that.

And yes, you need to block the rear frame, then dump the air suspension when removing that line.

To make life easier for you, just take off the tires for that axle. Yes its more time, but its a royal pain trying to fight your wrenches when you dont have to

Also, more likely the big end is the connection nut, try backing it off first

I think I would go it by first use PB Blaster on the fitting. While it's soaking, remove the bolts holding the bag to the frame. Have a way to jack the frame. I use 2 old brake drums stacked with a steel plate over the hole for the hub, and use a 20 ton bottle jack to lift. Right before jacking the frame, heat the fitting. I'd use a 1lb can of propane with a torch. Between the fitting being soaked in PB Blaster for a little while, and the heat, there's a chance the pipe might come out without damaging the flared fitting. Another possibility is detaching the bag from the suspension too, and when the frame is lifted, twist/turn the bag to break the fitting.

If you can’t get the line loose and new one isn’t available. Might be able to cut the airbag off with a grinder and cut off wheel. Then split the nut carefully, on each side if needed with the cut off wheel. Better to jack up frame anyways. Being able to lower it while lining up bottom nut/stud. Old one will snap off easily if stuck.

Thanks for all the tips! I appreciate it. I'm not going to get to this for 2-3 weeks, but I'll let you know how it goes :)

I wouldn't even waste my time trying to save those tubes. I'd order new ones. If the first one was seized I'd be taking the zip disc to them all.

On our triaxles I keep spare lines and don't waste my time trying to loosen the nuts just cut on each side of frame rail and grab a new section. Might save some pain on a roadcall someday for someone using new

LONG term update: owner finally got around to approving the work. It wasn't terrible. I spent 2 or 3 hours trying to save those interconnect hoses, until I borked one up so bad, it had to be replaced. When I found out they were cheap, I just got all 4 and cut the old ones out. That made the job a LOT easier. I shoulda just done that in the first place.
