Hey all, I hope you're all doing well, and not stuck in traffic. As mentioned I'm new to carhauling. Company driver, paid percentage of load. I've noticed that over the last few weeks, my paystub contains zero information as to how my pay is calculated. In fact, it says I'm hourly, which I'm definitely not. The paystub says 0.00 hours and nothing else at all. Just my gross, deductions, and net pay totals. Nothing about per load, per car, per mile, literally nothing at all. I asked about this, and was told, "The loads all pay different, so it's hard to say how much is made off of each specific vehicle." So, apparently, no one questions anything because they make enough that they don't care about specific amounts. (Insert jerk off motion) What should I see on my paystub in this particular situation. I've always been hourly, so I'm a little unclear on percentage pay, but with me not being a total moron, I'm left with a few questions, but very few answers. I would just like some input from people that have been around the block in this industry. What do you all think? Shady as all hell, right?

You should be getting a settlement sheet listing what each load payed. Usually they'll show both gross and your percentage so you can verify your payroll and catch any mistakes. Anywhere I've ever worked would have broke down by load & stop, so that you could see that on load BR549 stop A paid $x per vehicle & stop B paid $y per car.

I understand we need to trust our employers to a certain extent, but not giving you anything stinks to high heaven! They could be paying you half of what they should and you have no way to verify that.

It is Shady as hell and more than one company operates like this. They don’t ever want to show you the invoice to the customer which is legally what you are supposed to be able to see if you request it when you are paid percentage. Generally most companies will show on your settlement what they claim is the load pay billed and break each load down by what each unit pays. Owner ops usually also see fuel surcharge for each unit.

Sorry, Not that guy, I'm the retired local yokel with 2 trucks trying to stay above water.
I pull granny out of a ditch, and the blown transmission guy to the garage.

You’re most likely getting cheated out of wine money but ,
If this is a new field to you and you like it , and you are learning valuable skills aboit car hauling and want to make car hauling your career , you may want to just consider it tuition and once you get 6 to 8 months experience or maybe a year if they aren’t stealing too much , and then go someone that is above board and upfront and transparent with the pay

My neighbor does heavy haul oversize and gets paid a percentage
    But they are transparent

most of his shipping manifests have the charges and amounts on them

he’s Probabaly not getting paid as high as he should but the company hired him right out of CDL class at the community college and taught him how to haul oversize overweight loads when he was 20 and couldn’t even cross state lines .

he’s still Probabaly underpaid but they have him hauling 16 wide x 75 long loads now and it’s good experience,

Thanks for the input everyone. I've never worked for any company that was so dodgy about pay specifics. I can't get a straight answer at all. My last check worked out to $24 per car, even though I was going all over the state. If I work it out hourly, it's about $12 per hour. I want to ask some of the other drivers, but I don't know who I can trust. I appreciate your input. Thank you and safe travels.

9 car stinger. I've only been hauling cars for about 3 months now. I've been driving trucks for 16 years. Mostly van, but also flatbed, and a little reefer. Double/triple, Hazmat (expired because I haven't needed it), tanker. I actually really like carhauling, but the office is all wrong. I was just told that I can't use split sleeper or adverse driving provisions, mainly because the guy in charge of logs doesn't know how to activate on the ELD we use. So if I'm 30 minutes away from home, but outta time, I HAVE to do a full 10 hour reset.
