Having a small problem. I went to school to get my CDL, in in the middle of it I get a form from Albany telling my license has been suspended because of failure to appear for tickets from 34 years ago. Mind you I have been driving a straight truck for the last 17 year with D.O.T laws and airbrakes. I go to traffic court and get them dismissed because I pleaded not guilty and no cops showed up. Problem was it was my brother using my name so he wouldn't get into trouble. Since I didn't have a license at that time he figured whats the trouble. Well everything was dismissed but it's still shows that my license was suspended from 1980 till Nov 2013. I had a great job lined up for a regional run up in the NE until they saw this on my record. I tried to tell them it was a mistake but to no avail.
Now I am afraid I won't get a good job and will have to work for scum bags that will use the crap out of me. Please help me out here guys. Need some advice how I go about this. DMV and the courts won't help me either.

Okay. You are not making yourself clear. So let me see.

Your license show us as suspended since 1984, yet in that time you renewed your license?

Your brother is some how involved. He was the one with the tickets that caused this?

You are going to need a traffic lawyer to get all this straightened up. The problem is that you are dealing with multiple branches of the government. Licenses are executive branch and courts are Judaical.

You need to call a lawyer or give us better details. Then we can give you advice and at the end of all that, you still need to call a lawyer. All it should take is a letter from him.

    Puppage Thanks this.

Pay the tickets and reinstatement fees. It's about all you can do unless there is a cold case traffic ticket investigator.

I had a similar problem when I got my CDL. I passed all the test and went down to the TN DMV to get my CDL. They told me my license was cancelled because it was suspended in FL?? Huh?

I call FL and they said my license was suspended there because it was suspended in SC? Huh??

I call SC and they said my license was suspended in PA where I grew up? Huh????

I call PA and they said my license was suspended from a speeding ticket I got when I was 16 years old in 1977.

Now I have been driving 18 years and never had a problem changing licenses when I moved or anything. I even had 3 gov't security clearances done. I got this ticket and I wasn't even driving. As dumb kids I let my so called friend drive my car. We passed a state trooper doing 80 in a 55. He puts his lights on going the other way so we pulled over while he got turned around. My friend said he didn't have a license and for us to switch drivers and he would pay the ticket. After the fact he said he paid the ticket and I didn't think anything else about it.

Fast forward 18 years I had to pay that PA fine and get a reinstatement letter of clearance and down the line had to pay each state and get a letter. I forget now but it cost like $600 and 3 weeks to get it all straightened out. Luckily my company stood by me and waited.

If I ever found that guy I probably would come unglued. :)

Good luck. With the right phone call and some money I'm sure you can get it cleared up.

It's Albany,NY. Besides the first response which clearly shows lack of reading comprehension, some more info is needed. Right now I have a lawyer on retainer to get this settled. Lawyer informs me that the suspension should have been taken completely off my record after they were dismissed. Problem is, it isn't and everyone can see this. They know it's a bunch of crock but seeing a 34 year suspension is in their face. Nothing they can do. I've been told 5 times that as soon as that's cleared up I have a job.
