Hello all, I'm new here but not new to the trucking industry although its the first time as an owner. We bought an ol pete and have a 42ft end dump material trailer rented. Our plan is to haul scrap metal out of little Rock to steel mill at newport and haul slag back. I just wondered bout the ins and outs hoping for advice. Thanks in advance

What type of in/out were you looking for? Ops/$/paperwork?
-
Assuming it's a frame-less trailer? I've never hauled scrap, but a dumps a dump. Make sure you're LEVEL, make sure there are no overhead obstructions-especially power lines, make sure truck/trailer are straight, make sure tailgate is open (you laugh, but seen it happen), deflate all airbags and make sure after that there is nothing left in the box-especially up front. Easy as pie.

Yes its a frameless with a barn door tailgate, sounds dumb but I have heard a high wind will turn one over and with my shoestring budget I don't need a uh oh. Should I set tractor or trailer brakes when dumping? Thanks for the info
-
Oh you want to know how to drive one. Don't set brakes use your trolly value and let the tractor roll forward. Otherwise the trailer will roll back into to your pile. Never ever dump next to another truck or vehicle. 70-80 feet away. Check your tires alot. Your hauling around scrap/sharp metal. Nothing like blowing a trailer tire with the trailer up. We have an old saying in the Tub biz............There's 2 kinds of Tub drivers.Ones that have and ones that are going to.
wore out and Giggles the Original Thank this. -
I have heard that bout the 2 kinds I just hope it don't take my truck I'm kinda partial to it. Thanks a lot you were a lot of help.

Buy cheap tires in a scrap metal yard you have a lot more exposure to ruin them.

Ya on my budget I don't have to worry bout owning any yokohamas or bridgestones. Uncle Bill used to say son. 99 percent of being in trking business is looking cool that other 1 percent is making just nuff money to keep looking cool. I hope he was right
