New to Prime INC - What to expect (Springfield edition)

A bit of advice , in this GAME your ALWAYS learning the buisness regardless of a previous background in Biz Management nor do not think your short stint with a lease trainer made you an expert .

IP has laid out all the ups / downs of being a L/O on here and a lot follow it and do OK others know it all and fail .

Awhile back when I first got to prime, my mentor or introduce to me to prime told me to stay away from certain people and these bs sites. I told him I was going company he said for what? Well everyones talks about lease is so hard etc. He told me in a stern voice if "they" told you walk in the middle of the highway would you? I said no. He told me dont listin nor pay any attention to what some of these drivers say. You want to go company and own nothing? Do you want to work your whole life driving or own something? Opinion islike ###..everyone has one. At the start will be rough but hang in no matter what. So if you dont like the way I come off...o well make your money let me make mine.

 

No one said he was an expert , but in life you learn from others and I just noted that IP has done an excellent job laying out things for those that take the time to follow his advice.

As for you or myself knowing everything I never implied that however you will soon learn what you DO NOT KNOW

I have already made plenty of $ and OWN plenty of trucks / trailers so no need to worry about me

I would be very interested in you keeping us posted on your progress. You having a Mentor is huge, as I an sure you are well aware, and I applaud you for having the for site to have one. While going lease straight out of TNT is dangerous for new drivers I think you are setting yourself up for success, and I think you should post your trials and errors here, possibly start a new thread, to advise new drivers.

I've read this thread from page one and it has been very informative. It has made me change my mind on where I want to go to get back into driving. I already have by CDL and drove for a company for about six months. I loved being on the road and as soon as I started to get the hang of it I had to quit due to getting divorced and needing to be there for my daughter. This was back in 2009. So I know I will have to be with a trainer for 40,000 miles and I am OK with that. I am not sure if anyone knows the answer, but I read on here that a guy was fired from a job and then applied to Prime. He was told to wait six months or find a job for six months then apply again. Well I was let go from a previous job and I do have a current job but have only been working for 4 months. Does anyone on here have a similar experience and can advise what to expect? I will wait if I need to but would like to get started as soon as I can. I am not liking my current job and have had that itch to get back on the road.

 

Wow Failure is not an option, and he knows absolutely nothing about the trucking industry?

He say's he doesn't mix business with pleasure, but he doesn't understand anything about random drug testing? or the Consequences if you come up positive or refuse a test.

Is it ok to take bet's on how long this guy will be at prime or in the trucking industry?

 

Already failed at keeping clean. So failure is just a mistake away. Crossing fingers you don't get tested.

your odds are really good at being tested at or before upgrade. I've had more trainees test the first time they hit a terminal after a hometime that I don't think it's as random as one would think.

just remember, when failure is an option, the first thing your fleet manager will suggest is you should start training... But I guess you know that. Your mentor must think you are ready to train before you've even run solo too

 

My experience with training and drug tests was a little different than yours. I personally got a random once, about 2 months into my training. It was my only random during over 5 years at Prime. When I was instructing / training, only 1 of my students / trainees got a random, and he got it as we were leaving for his first load as a student (about 3 days after his pre-employment screen). Out of about 8 or 9 other trainees on my truck, none got a random.

Drug tests where I drive now... I did the pre-employment, and about 15 months into my employment, I had to take 3 drug tests over the span of about 6 weeks (2 DOT random, 1 non-DOT post accident), and none since.
