A new deal! I've got an MCP1000, seriously old stuff. At least it has a color display! I'll stick with what I've got- no desire for the shop monkeys to start drilling holes in my machine.

    Pretrip question concerns:
I will be a student driver. Will my trainer walk around & go over the pretrip with me everyday? There is a lot of stuff to learn I want to be well prepared. Also when you test at the DMV, do you do the whole pretrip inspection? I have heard that they only make you do partial, is that true? Are you allowed to use any notes at allwhen testing?

The pre-trip is broken down into 5 different sections, Plus lights. Your instructor should do an initial walk through with you at least once for each section. Then you should study up on it and do a review of it every day with your instructor, at least once a day.
When I have a student, I give them a script for each section on how I want it done, then I go over it with them once to show them where every thing is for that section. Then twice a day the student goes over it with me while I stand over his shoulder and point out any corrections that need to be made. Once that section is down, we move on to the next section and include it in the next days pre-trip and so on. My students have 4 days to get the 1st section down, 2 days per section after that and so on.
I can't speak for DMV, I know at Prime the examiners make you do a minimum of 3 sections, and sometimes it is all sections. And no, you can't use notes, you must have it memorized. Its not as hard as u think, once you get the verbage down it just flows after that.
    Hope this helps u

Yes that is helpful. I'm a pretty smart, capable guy, but there is always that "what if I don't pass?" in the back of my mind... You get 3 chances to test from what I've heard.... Is it pretty rare that you have a student that doesn't make it?
