Depending on the state, you legally have 30 to 60-days after it's issued to get it done. Missouri could make a stink about YOU owing them state tax if you don't get it done soon enough. They'll claim that you changed your residence to Missouri because you got a license there, and only transferred your license to avoid paying tax. Not that it happens very often...

You need to make sure Missouri has reported to your home state that you surrendered your license to them BEFORE you change it back. I changed my license back to Virginia a little over 60 days after receiving my CDL in Missouri. Missouri had not yet reported my original VA license as surrendered yet. Two days after I got my VA CDL, Missouri reported the surrender. Virginia canceled the brand new CDL issued 2 days prior (same license number as the old license). I didn't find out about it for 5 months when I got a level 3 at the scale in Harrisonville, MO. Was placed OOS and got a ticket for driving without a license (the officer gave me a break, it could have been driving a CMV without a CDL). It took a day dealing with VA and faxing proof that I still had my VA CDL to get my license worked out, and then I had to get a lawyer to go to court in Harrisonville to get the ticket dismissed.

I wish I would have knew this before I change my license back to va. I surrendered my cdl license to dmv in va. before I went to prime to start the psd and tnt training. does this make a difference?

It's illegal to possess two CDLs from different states. It's incumbent on the state that issued the second CDL (at a later date) to revoke the second CDL.

That being said, because of the nature of OTR driving, you should really call your state's motor vehicle licensing office a couple of times a year just to make sure that you haven't collected something against your license that needs to be attended to. Ignore a red light camera ticket that carries no points against your license long enough, and some local judge from a Podunk berg will find a way to get your attention... like issuing a suspension order against your CDL. Nothing like being put OOS at a desolate coop in the middle of BFE during a blizzard in the middle of the Christmas holidays. Ain't that right Sazook??!!!! Try to get that taken care of, long distance!

I'm planning on going with Prime Inc soon. I turn 21 on the 20th of this month and right now I'm studying my CDL Handbook so I can go ahead and get my Permit so I don't have to worry about it once I get to Missouri. I've read a lot about Prime in this forum and they seem like an awesome company to start out with. I especially like their training program since I am a very hands-on kind of person and to me that's the best way to train. The only thing I'm going to have to get used to is the fact that the trucks are governed at a snail-like pace. But hey, if the pay is good (which it seems to be above average for newbies), I can reconsider that heavy foot of mine! :biggrin_2559:

Here's a question for y'all. After completing your team driving time and going solo, how does the company issue you your truck? Do drivers get to suggest what they want or is it whatever is available? Thanks for the help
