Does it really matter what test is performed?I wish all companies did both test.

I am currently a recruiter at a truck driving school. I have been with them for almost 2 years. We have campuses nationwide and recruit potential drivers from all over the country. We have between 20-30 trucking companies that actively recruit from us. We get to talk to most of the companies often and I have been able to get an idea of how each company is. By far I would say that Prime is head and shoulders above the rest. I drove with another refer company for almost a year prior to becoming a recruiter. I love what I do now but I miss being out on the road. I put my application in with Prime and was accepted to start orientation. I will start as a B2 for 30k miles. I have a few things to tie up at home and I will be ready to go! Hopefully I will be in my way in the next ten days or so.

We care as employees at Prime. We care as an industry on drivers safely moving a 40 ton vehicle down the highway that is shared by fellow truckers, family, friends and the general public.

Hair test goes back a couple months. Urine a few weeks. This past you are talking about isnt much of a past. Its recent history. If either one of these tests are a concern for an individual, it means they've been using recently.

If its been a few months, well then there shouldnt be concern about the urine test. But there is, they asked. So we might infer that this person has used as recently as the last few weeks. Or even using now, and just trying to time quitting a few weeks before heading off to orientation.

Had a few guys in my class that got that calculation wrong.

BTW, fail the drug test and Prime drops you off at the bus station. No ticket, and only your own means to get yourself home.

Let's not forget that any failed DOT drug test will be in the new federal database. Forever. Anyone who thinks they will ever get a job in trucking after that is a total fool. Plus, Prime will make sure that it's all over your DAC report as well.

Kiss ANY job in transportation goodbye after that.

Let's be clear, when I said that there is only one reason that anyone would ask the question of what kind of pre-employment drug testing is done, it's because I used to worry about that too. For quite some time I was a major pothead, and that stuff stays in your system. Anytime I was unemployed, the first thing that had to happen was to get it cleared out of my system. I no longer worry about such things because I'm 100% clean, and rarely drink even socially. So if someone is asking the question, it's because they know what they've been putting in their body, and they need to know what kind of testing is done to try to beat it. Don't kid yourself, and don't be telling any of us to "get over ourselves." That's 100% BS.

There's a lot of pressure and isolation in the cab of a truck, and there is no one looking over one's shoulder in supervision. So if someone has been getting buzzed, is an alcoholic, chances are they aren't going to change their behavior, and they'll think they can get away with it. That's 100% BS too... you're not going to get away with it. There's the random tests, being pulled over by a cop, a random at a scale house, and if you're in an accident you will provide samples. There's no getting around it. If you get busted, it goes against the carriers CSA scores... that's what's used to determine whether ALL of us get pulled in for inspections more frequently. So it DOES affect every driver at a carrier.

And plan on this too. You will be tested more frequently as a trainee, and a new driver. If you have even a trace of alcohol in your system during training you will be terminated on the spot. Show up buzzed at the Campus Inn during orientation? Plan on being immediately escorted off the property, and you best have a good pair of walking shoes.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but if I catch you driving under intoxication, you will get turned in, because your behavior affects me, my money, and my career. I won't loose a bit of sleep dropping a dime on you. Don't like it? Go drive for a bottom feeder. Prime only gives you one chance on this. No appeals, no whining. You will be gone.
