Keep in mind that training encompasses a couple of months out of a years-long career. If you could put up with the Army, I'm sure you can "Grin 'n Bear" it for a couple of months. My trainer was Mr. Dick for awhile... had to break him in proper. LOL! By the time we were done, he was back to being a pretty normal person.

I made it to Springfield! Got on the shuttle within minutes of getting off the bus, was the first to get checked in to the hotel. Have a nice roommate, ate a decent dinner and now I am waiting in the SIM lab for a 4:00 class. Everything has gone smoothly and I am excited to see whats next :)

Just remember, and most trainee's tend to forget, When you get into/onto the trainers truck, thats where he lives and you need to treat it with some respect. Granted the guy may be a slob, etc. But it is his home, and how would you like someone coming into your home and disrespecting it. Also, the trainer may not be everything you think he should be, but he is putting his truck, lively hood, and his life on the line by training you, so think before you start b@tching about him. He does not have to train you.

Oh, and if you don't like your trainer, or how he does things or keeps his truck, or how he is training you, THEN SPEAK UP right away, you won't be penalized for it.

Thanks a lot 101 I understand trust me I'm a very organize person and I respect peoples space rules therefore who ever trains me won't have a problem with me at all like I said I'm not expecting a perfect driver because no one is but at least I would expect some one I can get along with.

Im confused. I thought I had a thorough understanding of the process, but after reading the information below that is found on their website I'm not getting it. If I'm reading it correctly the student spends 4-6 months out OTR with trainer w/out earning a dime? All the while borrowing $200 /week (if needed) for living expenses? Can someone help me out here? This is not the way I understood the process, so maybe I'm not as smart as I think I am.

After completing your initial time at program in Springfield, MO, you will spend 4 to 6 months with a quality selected driver instructor in our refrigerated division. During this time, your trainer will work with you to perfect your driving skills and teach you the skills required to obtain your commercial drivers license (CDL). At the same time you should learn the basics on how to become a successful driver.

Prime is willing to loan all students $200 per week for them to use for food and incidentals during their CDL instruction phase (that will be repaid through deductions from future weekly pay checks at $25 increments once they obtain their CDL and are hired by Prime Inc.). This time prior to obtaining the CDL is UNPAID instruction time.

After you have aquired your CDL and are hired you will earn $600 per week or 12 cents per mile through the remainder of the training.
