That's cool. We all have our own methods.I have run that way as well. I just find it easier for me to look up rest spots etc in advance. And of course, if you've been there before....
What I meant on "fail" was getting to the end of your hours for the day and not finding a safe rest area, or accidentally running a restricted route or low clearence area. And before someone chimes in, yes I use the atlas as well. None of the "electronic gizmos" are a replacement for the grey matter between your ears. They're just useful tools like a ratchet instead of a box-end wrench.
New to Swift, any advice?

Hello JMf,
I see their trucks constantly on west side of Columbus, Ohio where I live. I have a friend that says they are a good company. He is very happy with them. He is trying to talk me into them as they have a terminal close to my home here in Columbus. I am gaining interest in them. Don't go by everything you hear in the posts, experiences vary. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! -
Well, day 1 of orientation has come to a close. Did better than I thought I would on the road test. There was about 40 people at the beginning of orientation, because last week, they didn't hold orientation in Lancaster, so it took a long time for DOT physicals and road tests. Heck, even my eyesight improved a bit from my last DOT physical. So far, been a good experience.
Tomorrow, I look forward to a fun filled classroom day. (sarcasm) -
Well, I was sent home at the end of orientation. Couldn't get me coded by the end of the weekend. Waiting on the OK from the security department, they are looking into an old misdemeanor (non-driving related) from 12 years ago that was expunged, when I was younger and dumber. Starting to get the bad feeling that last week was for nothing :/ I can say that the folks at orientation, and my recruiter have been pretty awesome about trying to help get this sorted out, and me behind the wheel.
I just hate the anticipation/stress/worry. -

Sorry to hear that! I went and did a refresher with roadmaster and had plans to go with swift,jb or usa truck..but I kept checking craigslist, monster.com and a few other sites for owner ops that need drivers. I got lucky and picked up my truck yesterday and will be rolling out today!
Keep in touch with you recruiter or the contact they gave you and bug the heck out of them!
take care -
Not necessarily for nothing. No idea why it would be a problem if it was expunges...unless you didn't put it down? Even "expunged" records can be dug up.
You may not have anything entered on your DAC since, even though you went through orientation, you were not coded. You are not actually employed by Swift until you are coded and have a Comdata card.
Stay in touch with your recruiter or Driver Services rep. Be the squeaky wheel.
Good luck to you. -
Actually, I did list the charge on my application, because, even though any state ran background check, or FBI fingerprint background check shows me with no history, some private companies that run background checks still show it, and have not been hired because of it.
Got a phone call from my recruiter, and was told that I got the approval from security/investigations. Should be coded in the morning. Probably will be heading out Wednesday, because the only bus out of town is early in the morning.
Yay, time to go make some money and support the family -
Well, I just got coded. (insert happy dance here). Waiting to get a mentor assigned to me now. Was told the mentor may swing thru my hometown to pick me up, or may need to take a bus to meet my mentor. Hopefully I am in a tractor soon!
123456 Thanks this. -
Keep us informed. I might be looking for a good mentor.
