Well CJ if you know your history, you will also know the CB was intended to be primarily a tool used for business communications. However people eventually found it was something to do in the after hours.

    Bayou Baby,

You answered your own question. You have to power that radio directly from the battery. It pulls close to 40 amps, Don't know what damage you may do by not having enough juice for it running from the fuse panel.
As far as antennas, ask 20 people and you will get 20 different answers.

What state are you in? If you're on the I-5 corridor, everyone is on channel 17, until you get south of CA 58, then it goes to 15. Radio traffic has really died off in CA the last few years but 19 is always dead.

You came to this conclusion while looking in the mirror and listening to your iPod at full volume? :biggrin_25523:

We can only strive to be as smart as some people think they are. After all we're just a bunch of dummy truck drivers anyway...thats why all the know it all's come here to remind us just how dumb we are.

40 amp draw from a radio? Do the headlights dim when you key the mike?:biggrin_2555:

    4 miles?? Sheesh....

I keep my squelch 1/4 turn to the right. It keeps dang near all the static noise out of my recieve. If somebody passing me says something, i can hear them, if i cant catch it totally, i flip it all the way left real quick. Works just fine for me, it may not be the 'propet way' but it works just fine. Im using a Browning coiled antenna, and can recieve over 15 miles from a radio with decent power, and have got radio checks from other mobile radios in trucks from 20 miles. I was at the 376, other driver was at the 357. My radio does ~175-200 watts on the bird meter all day long, but usually run power at 3 o'clock and mic gain at 2 o'clock, and can still get over 10 miles like that, and dont overpiwer when im right on top of you. Simple setup, and #### effective.

By my calculations, 18 Amps is not 'close to 40 amps'.
