Hi there,
Hows it going everyone. My name is Ben. As you can tell by my username I'm a ham radio opertor in Central Minnesota. I decided to come to these forums here because as of late I have been thinking very seriously about getting my Class A Liscense.
What is everyone else's thought about getting the Class A license? Good Idea or bad Idea? I work as a school bus driver right now and the pay isn't what I was hoping for so I am looking at what my next idea could be.
thank you Folks & Take care,
Ben

Welcome aboard Ben. Glad to have you with us. You'll find plenty of folks here are willing and ready to help you with your questions. A Class A will let you drive pretty much anything providing you have the proper endorsements. It's a no brainer in my book!
Admin and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
thank you Gears! thats a nice truck you have there. My goal is to have my Class A in one year....and have a job with that class A in two years. Do you think that might be a bit unrealistic. Now the hard part just coming up with the money.
Ben -
Not unrealistic. There are carriers that offer their own in house training provided you sign on with them. No need to come up with big $$.
If you do school on your own, you can pre-hire with many carriers before you even finish school. No need to wait a year, which I wouldn't recommend regardless. -
So would you agree with setiment that truck driving can be very frusterating, as well as rewarding.
-
Yep, pretty much like anything else in life.
Make the most of every situation and don't dwell on the negative. Surround yourself with positive helpful people and life will be much improved.shriner75 Thanks this. -
Hey Ben welcome first of all, And second I second everything Gears has said. Central MN heh? ANywhere close to Mankato or Hutchinson? Heck you have your class B so maybe get on with a company that has straight trucks and a few semi trucks. After working there maybe if you show enough intrest and ask them they can let you get your permit and do drive alongs with their drivers. That has happened as well. But Good luck and we are here to help and sometimes pirate threads.
