Hi everyone! Im Bill and getting ready to graduate from Keystone Diesel Institute Friday. I'm having a problem right now trying to get out there on the road no one will hire me and won't tell me why! I'm getting a little frustrated because I need to provide for my kids. I had to quit my job just to go to trucking school Mon.-Fri. so I'm hoping someone can give me some advice about how I can get out there on the road. Thanks

The only advice I can give you is to hunt down whoever told you to go to trucking school and give them a swift kick in the ### . There are tens of thousands of experienced drivers out of work . Layoffs are increasing , fleets are downsizing . There are over a million people unemployed in the transportation industry , up over 50% from a year ago . If the phone rings , don't answer unless you want to be gone weeks at a time for $300 a week or less take home . Read some posts and get the real scoop . Go to welcome wagon , click posts of members that joined a few months ago then read their latest posts . Not to many happy campers .

I decided to change my career because I wasn't bringing home alot of money. I know that I should of waited but being in a little town (Ford City,PA) like this its hard to find anything anymore so that's why I decided to get into trucking. I guess something to do with the insurance companies is the reason why everyone is turning me down. I had a suspension in 2001 and 2007 got a speeding ticket which was dumb of me and now I'm learning from my mistakes I guess.

Yeah , you're welcome here . Right away when you said you had a family to provide for I knew there was a problem . Now the info about your MVR makes it worse . Some that would hire you don't have the choice . It's up the the insurance company . I worked for one small company that had the insurance company tell them they had to take a driver out of the truck . Luckily for him at the time CDL drivers were allowed to go to defensive driving school to get points removed . He was back in the truck in a couple of weeks . Since 2005 that is no longer allowed . I don't know if you were aware of that when you got your CDL but once a CDL holder gets a traffic conviction it sticks . No way to get the points removed .
