Hello all, I have a few questions on o/o trucking. I live in SE Louisiana and currently working for a paper mill. I've been questioning myself to branch off and do something. I've been thinking of 2 things...wood chip hauling or aggregate hauling. Trucking here in my parish is huge, wether it's long wood, wood chips, bark, or aggregates. It's something I've always wanted to do and most of you will prob think I've lost my mind...can anyone inform me as a o/o how to obtain ways to haul....thank you for any info

Friend, you may need to find out how much wood and wood chips pay first. I wouldn't do it just because it's there. Money talks.

South Louisiana has all the oil refineries. I would look into getting into tanker yanking. Bet it pays 3x what wood chips do.

Seems to me there's a bit more stability in tanker work too.

I have talked to some guys that pull 50% caustic and spent caustic to the mill but they all seem to say the same that their company the pull for won't hire someone without tanker experience. Can anyone reference this? I have a friend that is a sales rep for a spent caustic company and i was hoping he may could have some pull for me.

ive also heard that the tanker pull is paying between 350$ and 400$ a load for "local" (less than 75miles from refinery to mil) and the "specialty" loads coming from Texas are paying around $800 per load. Also according to a report I found, chipper trailers were getting $27/ton.

You can go to Schneider, get great training, run for a year, then apply at those other companies. Schneider has a yard in Reserve. Louisiana has an amazing chemical market. I'm actually considering moving there because of this

Tanker company drivers vs owner op wood chippers. A high end company tanker yanker will make $100k/yr in Louisiana.

Market is thin on drivers, they will hire you. If you have a clean drivers license, if any DUI or reckless driving marks are on your license you'll be chopping wood.
