New to trucking and I am trying to find the right niche for me.

    Hi everyone best to all of you from a new guy!
    I finished a trucking school course last October and went out on the road with a trainer. On my return to the terminal I failed my road test (I passed the first one ) my trainer could not believe that the examiner failed me but, he did. Anyway I am now trying to find a company that will give me the opportunity to get some OTR.
    I am 73 years old and have been told that the failure was due to my age. Insurance companies do not want older drivers. ?? I am fit with a totally clean driving record and no criminal history. If it is true that companies will not hire older drivers I am considering of alternatives like.
    Maybe I will begin doing Hot Shot but, I really want to drive a big rig for a while. Also I do not know anything about Hot Shot. Is it ptofitable? It is going to cost quite a bit of dough to start and I do not want to run into a similar situation as I did before. Also I thought that a pilot car business might be an alternative. But I know nothing about that either.
    Well I invite any and all input about this post. I am really at a loss right now.

    that doesnt make sense...if it was ur age..then why did they send you with a trainer to begin with??? and if you are qualified, and they discriminated because of your age...then thats not right...i mean they couldnt come right out and say, no we wont send you with a trainer because we feel you are too old, but when they got a copy of ur CDL and saw ur age...they could have said they werent hiring....hmmmmm..doesnt make any sense to me....

    Keep tryin Brotha..Although I do not know the answers to your questions/concerns; I do know the same things you described happens to people half your age-and younger than that..

    Why not post your query on the thread 'Questions From New Drivers' ? For sure you will get more opinions over there. Good Luck Man.! :)

    Keep trying. Take a look at Panther Expedite. Put an ad on Trucking Jobs thread on here and also Seeking Employment thread. Put an application with Navajo; the company hires new CDL grads. Lots of guys out here older than you. Try Watkins & Shepard also.
