^^^^^This.
I came off the road and worked a mechanic job I hated, for 12 years, until my son was through high school and off to college.
It's more important than you realize for you to be home for your child's early years.
OF COURSE you're having a blast on the road..... you're free of the day to day responsibilities of being a husband and father.
Do the right thing.
New to trucking and I have the bug

I bought my first truck when our oldest was three. Bought it from an older fellow local that owns a trucking company, that’s all he’s ever done in his whole life. Were discussing work for it, and he looked me right in the eye and said now is not a good time for you to run over the road. He said you’ve got children to raise at home, and he said he personally took off OTR in order to raise his two children. He did offer me work running regional, said I would be gone a max of 1 night a week. His opinion definitely mattered, because he practiced what he preached. I went to work for another local outfit pulling reefer at that time, but I still help him several months a year over busy season.D.Tibbitt, FearTheCorn, homeskillet and 2 others Thank this.

I commend you for doing the right thing not only for your kin but also for the people in society that have to live with them. Poor parenting brings poor societies.
I'm sure your old lady appreciated it too. Imagine being a woman trying to handle a young child and the household responsibilities alone. That's too much for any sane person to bear.homeskillet, Rideandrepair and Sons Hero Thank this. -

Are you under contract with the company you're now driving for?
