Seems as though you've already made a decision about Averitt.
Several companies have good home time. If money isn't important, then go with Averitt.
You can make a thousand a week with Maverick and be home every weekend; that won't happen with Averitt. You can make more money with Schneider working out of the Walmart DC in London or Watkins-Shepard out of Berea.

    FootballFan Thanks this.

Thanks for the advice man, you really help out a lot of people on here. I was just wondering how much I could expect to make my first year and any other advice you can give me as I go about the process of getting my CDL.

I'll make about 60k this year and I've only have been driving truck for just shy of 3.5 years. I also took a three year break from trucking as well since I hated OTR before I came back into trucking but this time doing it locally. I'm sorry but the 10 years part is complete BS.

If you start at an ltl company you will eventually make more there each year then at any company that has already been listed in this topic. $1,000.00 gross a week is peanuts after you get some experience and move on from just being an otr driver that does nothing but haul dry van trailers. A lot more money can be made in ltl, intermodal, food service, etc.

I've heard low miles. Good home time. Respected company... clean cut.

Cute Averitt uniforms to wear along with those little paychecks. A few years ago you almost had to have political connections to even get an interview there; now they churn through drivers like crazy.

Talk to Schneider about school. You can probably work something out where they pay for school and assign you to Walmart DC in London, KY.

Tyson Foods you would make much more than at Averitt. You may be a little outside the hiring area, but worth a phone call; sometimes they cut some slack on that.
