I am a trucking school student in Tucson. I have a prehire. I was wondering if you need to live near the main hubs for good home time or if you can still live in the area you currently reside? I know that i will be out from 4-6 weeks with 4-6 days at home. Does the comapny allow you to have riders with you during long school breaks? My daughters are excited about being able to ride if they can? Can anyone help? Very new to trucking. I have been a welder for the last 13 years.:biggrin_25524:

Most companies prefer you to be within 50 miles of a terminal or drop yard so you can part the truck there while at home. 4-6 continuous days usually not going to happen and have read where some companies have a policy that could be unseated from truck if gone for more than 2 days. Most companies have a rider policy and if they are only 16 it is only allowed during the summer.

It doesnt matter where you live. Stevens only has one terminal, and thats in Dallas. If they hire you, they will get you home.

    Rider Policy:
You have to be solo for 6 months to be elligible for an adult (18+) to ride along, or solo for 1 year for a child (13+) no riders under 13

I live in Delaware. Getting home has not been a problem. Stevens prefers you take no more than 5 days at home at a time. This is just because an idle truck is making no money. You can take as long as you need, but will have to turn the truck in and get assigned a new one when you return if you are a company driver. That's official policy anyway I believe.

You will need written permission from your company to have a passenger. You may also be required to have insurance to cover your passenger in case of an accident.
