Hello, not sure how to word this. But, I am just now starting looking into trucking. I am thinking a company that provides free training with a year or more commitment is the way for me to go. I am a current Indiana resident, but really don't want to stay in Indiana necessarily. Considering the state of Washington or somewhere down south. Just not sure if with an Indiana driver's licence if companies will consider me for other states. Or, if I need to move to whatever state first, to get a regular driver's licence, before any company will consider me for any training program in a state other than state of current residency. I tried to research online, but must not be using correct wording to find results I am hoping to get. I would really appreciate it, if someone could help me figure this out. So, I can start making plans.

Of course I do have a habit of being to wordy. And, that is likely why I am having difficulty with searching online for answer to this.

It will not matter as you are new but IF you do change residence you will have to get a license in your home state... Personally I would just get through training and start driving before you change....

Many of the larger trucking company/schools will require you to get a CDL permit for the state the school operates in. That will mean transfer your regular drivers license over. They usually allow students to use the school or company address to accomplish this.

Best bet is to figure out which company you want to go with, you might find one that has a training facility in your state or at the very least will walk you through their process.

Contact the company you plan to go with and ask them. Many states are requiring you get the permit in the state you are training in, home state doesn't matter.
