Got the truck back the other day from ThermoKing, new Evolution APU installed, replacing my 10 year old unit, which was rotting away and leaking coolant. The install was gorgeous compared to the hack job install it replaced. Unit is mounted on the passenger side frame rail towards the back of the sleeper. One thing though, this thing is LOUD compared to my old unit. If you have been through this upgrade, have you guys experienced the same thing with these new units in regards to the noise level?
I swear the other Evolution units I have heard running in the truck stops were much quieter than mine. The frequency too is different, call it bright when compared to the old unit which was flat. I feel like I am auditioning home stereo speakers... Any thoughts, any cures? Thanks.
New Tri-Pac installed...

I have a old tri pac,so not familiar with the new. I'd check the idle speed and exhaust. The idle speed on mine was jacked up,instead of taking it to the dealer I just looked at a couple other units and counted threads on the idle screw. It was five rounds too far in.
Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
I will check that out, thank you sir.

You'll get used to it, in a few weeks ya won't even notice it most of the time.
Its going to kick on a lot though, the battery monitor is set at 12.8 usually( factory set) I hooked up my laptop and changed my to 12.0. I tried 11.5 but I would lose my interior lights before it kicked on , lol.
As far as idle speed you actually want it set a little high for when the a.c. kicks in.
When I went in for my first service it was one of the first things the tech checked. Mine needed to be turned up about 500rpm.
Yes mine is a new evaluation. 2017.Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
By the way you'll want keep ya some 20amp fuses ( orange) there's two in the panel the top one is the one that blows. Probably won't have to worry about till summer and you start using the a.c. .
They think the issue is in the condenser fan. I had mine replaced ( warranty) in the first month. But it still blows once in awhile.Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
I have heard new APUs have DPF and must be changed after 2-3 k miles. is it true? what is the cost ?
-
I hope not, thought never even crossed my mind to ask. LOL!

I was in Thermo king dealer in California few weeks a go. The salesman told me that new units have dpf factory installed and must be cleaned/changed in certain period. Same think was told at Carrier dealer. After long thinking I bought 2008 model year Carrier with 2000-3000 hours on it without DPF.
Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
Great, how much is the DPF can?
